Free throw shooting has long been a weakness for Vicksburg High’s girls’ basketball team.
Just not on Tuesday.
Zion Harvey went 15-of-16 from the foul line, including an 8-for-8 performance in the fourth quarter, and finished with 27 points as the Missy Gators beat crosstown rival Warren Central 62-46 in the first round of the MHSAA Region 2-6A tournament.
Harvey had seven rebounds and six assists to go along with her game-high point total. As a team, the Missy Gators were 24-for-30 at the free throw line.
Warren Central had three players foul out and another finish with four fouls, which allowed Vicksburg to pull away a bit in the second half. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, and Vicksburg held a 25-20 lead at halftime.
Camara Evans finished with 22 points for the Lady Vikes (2-21), and Arrionna Jenkins scored 10 before fouling out.
Cynia Johnson totaled 18 points and seven rebounds for Vicksburg (16-11),while Ny’Keria Watson scored seven points and Carjessa Albert had four steals.
