A Florence man who was killed with his wife in a Feb. 14 plane crash in Alabama had ties to Vicksburg.
Allan Campbell, 44, was born in Vicksburg and attended Jett Elementary School and Northview United Methodist Church, and played soccer in the Vicksburg’s youth soccer league. His family moved to Crossette, Ark., when he was 8 years old, and moved to Brandon two years later, according to information from his family.
His goal was to be a commercial pilot, and he enjoyed flying, according to the family.
A professional pilot, employed by Belle Chasse, La.-based Southern Seaplane, Campbell and his wife, Calli, where killed when the single-engine Cessna 210 plane he was flying crashed in a wooded area of Jefferson County, Ala., near Trussville, northeast of Birmingham. He was flying blood samples from Mississippi to Birmingham on business, according to reports.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the plane crashed about 10:18 p.m. Friday after Campbell requested an instrument flight rules clearance from air traffic controllers.
He was an experienced pilot, holding a private pilot’s license, commercial pilot’s license, flight instructor certification and seaplane certification.
