Vicksburg rolls to 3-0 in district play

Josh Sterling had a pair of hits and three RBIs, and Jekori Reed had a two-run double as Vicksburg (5-6, 3-0 Division 4-5A) kept its hold on first place by routing Lanier (1-5-1, 0-3).
“It’s nice to be on top early, but it counts at the end,” VHS coach Ryan Grey said. “We still have six district games left and are going to have to fight to get the crown.”
John Plummer added two hits for the Gators, and Lee Middleton had a double. Tyler Smith struck out seven batters and allowed one hit over four innings to get the win.
PCA 23, Veritas 0
Six Porters Chapel players had at least two hits, and the Eagles (10-8, 4-0 District 5-A) made short work of winless Veritas (0-8, 0-1) in a three-inning, run-rule shortened game.
Peyton Guider went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Booth Buys was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Taylor Rushing and Zac Morgan each had two hits and drove in three runs.
PCA can clinch its first playoff berth since 2011 by sweeping a doubleheader at home against Veritas on Friday.

St. Aloysius 5
St. Aloysius (5-6, 0-1 Division 7-1A) had its three-game winning streak snapped with a loss to Bogue Chitto (5-7. 1-0) in its division opener Tuesday.
The teams play again Friday night at Bazinsky Field.
