A well-known beauty industry icon will be the guest speaker at an event sponsored by the local chapter of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc.
Dr. Eunice M. Dudley is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mount Heroden Baptist Church, said Barbara Johnson, the president of the local chapter.
Dudley currently serves as the executive director for the Dudley Beauty School System, which is a school system designed to develop professional cosmetologists, nail technologists, managers and instructors. Schools are located in the District of Columbia, Chicago and Charlotte and Kernersville, N.C.
“We are so excited that Dr. Dudley will be our keynote speaker,” said Johnson.
She is a sought-after African-American female business leader and it is great that Vicksburg has secured someone of her caliber, Johnson said.
Dudley and her husband, Joe L. Dudley, Sr. were featured in the national movie, “Good Hair,” which was a Chris Rock documentary that aired in 2009 about the hair care industry.
There will be no admission to hear Dudley speak, said Johnson.
The NANBPWC has also scheduled a fashion show at 7 p.m. Friday at the Vicksburg City Auditorium, which will be followed by a Red and White Gala at 9. DJ Reo will provide music for the event and tickets art $20 and available at the door or by calling 601-415-2972.
The local chapter of the NANBPWC was organized in 1969, Johnson said, and its goal is to promote business and professional women and young entrepreneurs.
Johnson said, the group is also involved in community services including meals on wheels, women in the military, domestic violence, women’s history and the United Negro College Fund. NANBPWC also awards scholarships to Warren Central and Vicksburg High School students.
The church is at 1117 Clay St. and the auditorium is at 901 Monroe St.
