Josephine Dobbins Hosey

PORT GIBSON — Josephine Dobbins Hosey died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at her home. She was 78.

Mrs. Hosey was a retired teacher who taught in the Jackson Public School District for 33 years and later taught for six years at Alcorn State University. She was a member of St. Peter A.M.E. Church, the Retired Teacher’s Association, Alcorn Alumni Association, and Mu Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She also served on the Hinds Community College Board of Directors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Dobbins Sr. and Julia Smith-Dobbins; a son, Dwayne Hosey and a brother, Joseph Dobbins Jr.

She is survived by a son, Edwin White of Jackson; a brother, Frank Dobbins of Port Gibson; four grandchildren, Taylor White, Treasure White and Jackson White, all of Jackson, and Kalvin White of Chicago; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at St. Peter A.M.E. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Byram McKenzie officiating.  Burial will be at Thompson Memorial Garden Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home with a family hour from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at St. Peter M.B. Church with the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority performing their ceremony at 6:30p.m., and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
