E.J. Willis scored 33 points and hit a pair of free throws late in regulation to force overtime, but Porters Chapel still fell to Silliman (La.) 67-65 Thursday in the Hillcrest tournament.
K.K. Willis added 22 points for PCA (10-5), but Kaylan Kline and Jill Kennedy each scored 21 to pace Academy-AAA Silliman.
It was PCA’s second loss in three days against a much bigger school. On Tuesday, single-A Porters Chapel fell to Academy-AAAA Jackson Prep, 73-65, in the first round of the tournament.
The Lady Eagles also have played several other higher-class teams early this season while playing a brutal schedule that matches them up against only three Academy-A teams before New Year’s Day.
Despite playing up in class, PCA coach Mitchell Willis said he was upset with his team’s effort on defense against Silliman.
“We just didn’t play the kind of defense we know how to play,” he said.
“When you score 65 points on offense, you ought to win.”
Next up for the Lady Eagles is another AAAA powerhouse. PCA will host Jackson Academy on Monday at 6 p.m.
PCA’s boys score and results were not reported.
