SHELBY BUFORD JAMES

Shelby Buford James died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 63.

Mr. James was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was a member of the IBEW Local 480 union in Vicksburg and a member of Goodrum Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred James; a daughter, Patricia “Sissy” Cunningham; a son, Wayne Pagan; and his father, Shelby A. James.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Hughley of Vicksburg; four sisters, Libby Sibley of Morton, Barbara Bartlett, Earline Fielder and Shirley McIntyre, all of Vicksburg; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe M. Spence II officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the service today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hughley, Nolan Bridges, Joe Branch, Harvey Luckett, Keith Greene and Bobby Stout.

ADELL KING

Adell King died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 82.

A homemaker, Mrs. King was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Marley; her father, Jim Pickens; and her mother, Willie Nailor Pickens.

Survivors include two granddaughters, Trudy James and Gwen Heath, both of Vicksburg; and a niece, Juanita Lovecraft of Detroit.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

M.C. PAMPLEY SR.

Services for M.C. Pampley Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Heroden M.B. Church with the Rev. Horace McKay officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:30 until 8 tonight at the funeral home and from noon until the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Pampley died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 73.

He was a retired store supervisor of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station and master sergeant with the U.S. Army with more than 25 years of service. He was a member of the Esquire Club, the American Legion Tyner-Ford Post 213 and a board member of MIDD-West Industries. He was a volunteer with the Crisis Intervention Help Line and a member of Mount Heroden M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel L. Pampley; his mother, Rosie Ray; and his father, Lewis Pampley.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie Pampley of Vicksburg; two sons, Mack C. Pampley Jr. and Gregory L. Pampley, both of Vicksburg; six daughters, Peggy A. Simpson of New York, Linda M. Stevens, Patricia Kinnard and Michelle R. Johnson, all of Vicksburg, Rose M. “Tangie” Sanders of Jackson, and Kimberly A. Love of Montgomery, Ala.; three stepsons, Shawn Moore of Vicksburg and Fredrick Bass and Antonia Bass, both of Tallulah; two stepdaughters, Vickie Moore of Vicksburg and Tiffany Bass of Tallulah; one sister, Hattie Winston of Los Angeles; 23 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

LUTHER A. THIGPEN JR.

Luther A. Thigpen died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 26.

Mr. Thigpen was a member of Standfield M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Savannah Carson.

Survivors include his father, Luther Thigpen Sr. of Chicago; his mother, Deborah Carson of Vicksburg; three sisters, Mary Thigpen of Vicksburg Debra Thigpen and Eunice Thigpen-Pereira, both of Chicago; and other relatives including Anna Carson, Janice Carson and Myra Carson.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Lane officiating. Burial will be Monday at New Homer Church Cemetery in Rose Hill, Miss.

BERTHA WILLIAMS

Bertha Williams died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Williams was a housewife and a member of Grove Street Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo Williams Sr.; a son, Robert Williams; her parents, Estella Davis Maxwell and William Maxwell; two sisters, Ruth Watkins and Myrtis White; and two brothers, Dennis Maxwell and Clemeuel Maxwell.

She is survived by three sons, John Williams of Greensboro, N.C., Floyd Williams of Carterville, Ga., and Theo Williams Jr. of Vicksburg; three daughters, Bertha Williams Conner, Estella Derr Lewis and Jocelyn Conner, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Bernice Crawford of Jackson, Fannie Henderson of Raymond and Edell Nixon of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grove Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Hardie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Home and from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
