A busy river

Lights shine on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ dredge Jadwin, far right, as it works in the Vicksburg bend of the Mississippi River Wednesday night. At the far left, the quarter boat for the Corps’ Mat Sinking Unit sits on the western bank of the river just north of the river bridges. In the distance, two other boats navigate down river. The wealth of river work has been noticeable from Washington Street and the Isle of Capri Casino during the past couple of weeks as the Jadwin performs preventive dredging along the channel during the day while the Mat Sinking Unit places concrete mats at the mouth of the Yazoo River.
