HIGH SCHOOL CUSTODIAN FIRED AFTER ADMITTING SEX
A South Delta High School custodian accused of impregnating a 15-year-old student was fired Wednesday.
Superintendent Estes Taplin said he fired Garrett Miles Jr., 35, after learning of his alleged affair with the girl on school property. The school is in Rolling Fork.
Miles was charged with statutory rape Tuesday night and released on bond. Taplin would not comment further on the incident.
Sharkey County Chief Deputy Cardell Hughes said the accusation came to light when the girl’s mother reported to the sheriff’s department that she had been raped. The girl is six months pregnant.
Investigators are still looking into the possibility that other girls were involved, Hughes said.
