A thick, black column of smoke near Interstate 20 Sunday night led firefighters to the site of an empty mobile home engulfed in flames on the east edge of Vicksburg.
Firefighters reached the trailer, which sat on a gravel drive about 200 yards from the frontage road, around 6:45 p.m., but were unable to save the structure.
Neighbors said the mobile home had been empty for about five years. It was owned by Jerrold Brooks.
The fire was reported by Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Dykes, who said he saw a black column of smoke rising from the trees while driving on I-20.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 9 p.m. to make sure the fire was out, said Lt. Rose Shaifer. The cause of the blaze was not known, she said.
