Warren County will be seeking bids on projects to provide extend water and sewer lines to the U.S. 61 North site where a new hospital is under construction and also to stop erosion threatening a county roadway.

Supervisors voted Monday to advertise the $900,000 plan to connect the River Region site on with Culkin Water District service and City of Vicksburg sewer lines. A Community Development Block Grant from the state will fund the project, and the county will serve as the conduit. Culkin Water is private, with supervisors empowered only to appoint board members. City officials administer municipal wastewater treatment.

In a similar effort last month, supervisors awarded a $3.1 million contract for the construction of access roads to the hospital. A grant from the state’s Economic Development Highway Program will actually pay for the work.

The 432,000-square-foot hospital across from Sherman Avenue Elementary School is expected to completed in May 2002.

Supervisors also authorized advertising for an erosion-control project along Newit Vick Drive once the state National Resources Conservation Service office approves funding.

The local office of the NRCS has recommended that the state approve the $150,000 design to repair a drainage channel along Newit Vick Drive that could become a problem with the roadway and neighboring homes.

Once approved, the project is expected to be completed by March.

Approved hiring William “Billy” Riddle as the operations officer for Warren County and Vicksburg’s Emergency Management Agency and Nikki Wills as the EMA office assistant effective Nov. 15.

Supervisors will meet again at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the courthouse for a public hearing concerning improvements being made at the Warren County Health Department.
