MABEL E. ABRAHAM

Services for Mabel E. Abraham will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church with the Rev. Peter Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at Fisher Riles Funeral Home with Trisagion Prayers at 4:30 p.m.

Mrs. Abraham died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at her home.

She was 84.

Born in Meridian, Mrs. Abraham was the daughter of the late George W. and Christine Abraham Ellis. She was a graduate of the Vicksburg Public Schools. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Help Yourself and Sunflower Food Stores in Vicksburg for more than 38 years. She was a member and had served as treasurer for the Women of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was also a member of the Cedars Ladies Club.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abraham was preceded in death by a grandson, George Ronald Abraham II, and two sisters, Lillian and Mamie Ellis.

Survivors include her husband, George E. Abraham of Vicksburg; two daughters, Katherine Abraham of Germantown, Tenn., and Kristi Collins of Memphis; two sons, Dr. George E. Abraham II and Dr. Robert M. Abraham, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Flora Ellis of Vicksburg; three brothers, Woodrow Ellis of Daytona Beach, Fla., Reggie Ellis of Vicksburg and Norman Ellis of Terry; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 2709 Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39180 or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Pallbearers will be Michael Abraham, Jea Abraham, John Nosser, Trey Abraham, George Jabour Jr., Charles Haddad, Jake Dornbusch and Richard Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Koury, Burkett Martin, John Wayne Jabour, Leo Boolos, Lee Thomas, Gene Underwood, Charles Toney, Albert Moses, Johnny Jabour and the women of St. George.

Annie Ree Bries Brown

Mrs. Annie Ree Bries Brown died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center.

She was 59.

Mrs. Brown was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, where she worked in domestic service. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawyer and Louise Bries; her husband, Eddie Brown Sr.; and a daughter, Brenda Younger.

She is survived by four daughters, Gwendolyn Richardson of Edwards, and Sharon Goss, Dora L. Thomas and Marilyn Brown, all of Vicksburg; two sons, Calvin Bries of Bloomington, Minn., and Arthur Brown of Vicksburg; an uncle, Willie Kemps of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and other relatives.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Franklin D. Holeman

NORTHPORT, Ala. Franklin D. Holeman died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at his home.

He was 59.

Mr. Holeman, a native of Greenville, was a former resident of Raymond and a graduate of Mississippi College.

Mr. Holeman was a retired staff sergeant with the United States Marine Corps. He served three tours of duty with the Marines during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Presidential Citation, the Meritorious Mast and the Good Conduct Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Holeman of Northport; a daughter, Michelle L. Rucker of Northport; a son, Calvin W. Holeman of Oxford; a brother, Raymond W. Holeman of Vicksburg; two sisters, Irene Tingle of Vicksburg and Saddie Marie Sparkman of Hollandale; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow in Vicksburg at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

A memorial service will follow at a later date in Northport.

Elana Slaughter

Elana “Dar” Slaughter died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center.

She was 95.

Mrs. Slaughter was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Eagle Lake

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Slaughter Sr.; her parents, Jerry and Rachel Brooks; one son, Eligah Slaughter; one daughter, Rubena Grey; five sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include two sons, Abraham Slaughter Jr. of Memphis and J.D. Slaughter of Eagle Lake; two daughters, Katie S. Ervin of Jolliet, Ill., and Iola S. Epps of Vicksburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Terry Slaughter family, Patricia A. Segrest and Zelmarine Murphy, all of Vicksburg.

Willie George Walker Sr.

Willie George Walker Sr. died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Riverside Hospital in Wilmington, Del.

He was 52.

Mr. Walker was a security guard at Delaware Tech Community College and supervisor of transportation at Columbia Gas. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eddie Walker and Charlie and Arrila Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Brown Walker of Wilmington, his parents, Lee J. and Lizzett Williams Walker of Vicksburg; three sons, Darrell Walker of Japan, and Carlos Walker and Willie George Walker Jr., both of Wilmington; one brother, Lee J. Walker of Vicksburg; three sisters, Clarone Pettis of Memphis, and Debra Hawkins and Pamela DeFrance, both of Vicksburg.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Yokena Cemetery.
