H. GLENN BRYANT

H. Glenn Bryant died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Veterans Hospital in Jackson. He was 55.

Born in Jackson, Mr. Bryant had lived in Vicksburg since 1950. He graduated from H.V. Cooper High School. He was a veteran of the Navy and retired from North American Van Lines. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Yates Bryant of Vicksburg; a son, Howard Glenn “Chip” Bryant Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Brandi B. Hoxie of Vicksburg; a granddaughter, Hallie Hoxie of Vicksburg; a stepgrandson, Chris Hoxie of Vicksburg; three nephews and other relatives, including Teri Bowen Bryant and Rip Hoxie Jr., both of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Eric J. Thomas and Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Leo Stevens III, Leo Stevens IV, Rip Hoxie, Chris Hoxie, Randy Yates, Park Rogers, Ford Stevens and Steve Bowen.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, 1607 Cherry St., Vicksburg, MS. 39180.

FRANK WASHINGTON COWART

CLEVELAND Frank Washington Cowart died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 89.

Mr. Cowart was born in Denham Springs, La., and was the son of the late Joseph Cotton Cowart and Anna Fletcher Cowart Goss. He was a retired self-employed farmer and building contractor. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland where he held several offices. He was a Gideon and a trustee of Travecca Nazarene University.

In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by a son, Archie Cowart.

He is survived by his wife, Stella David Cowart of Cleveland; two sons, Richard Cowart of Vicksburg and Julian Cowart of Longview, Texas; a daughter, Sara Langston of Tupelo; three brothers, M.J. Cowart of Las Vegas, A.J. Cowart of Duncan, Miss., and Jack Cowart of Memphis; five sisters, Pauline Finley of Union, Mary Glass and Lucille Dennis, both of Memphis, Ethel Shmidt of Olive Branch and Effie Beasley of Brandon; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Halbert Jenkins, Dale Bailey, Ellsworth McCracken and Roel Nabors officiating. Burial will follow at Delta Heights Cemetery in Cleveland under the direction of Fletcher-Nowell Funeral Home in Cleveland.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at First Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland and from 2 until the service Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Richard Cowart Jr., Robbie Cowart, Paul Caston, John Caston, Rodney Howell and Walter Frazier.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

CHARLES J. HALLBERG

MEMPHIS Charles J. Hallberg died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at Baptist Hospital in Desoto. He was 68.

Mr. Hallberg was a former resident of Vicksburg. He was a retired certified public accountant with Rhea & Ivy. He was former treasurer of Whitehaven Optimist Club. He was a member of the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. He was a member of Whitehaven United Methodist Church in Memphis, where he was past chairman of the financial committee and trustees and a Sunday school teacher for 39 years. He was past president and secretary-treasurer of the Whitehaven Kiwanis.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell B. Hallberg; a daughter, Peri H. Dulaney of Winchester, Ky.; a son, Charles J. Hallberg III of Bartlett, Tenn.; a sister, Lily H. DeCou of Boynton Beach, Fla.; a brother, the Rev. L.J. Hallberg of Brookhaven; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Whitehaven United Methodist Church in Memphis. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery in Vicksburg under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis.

DAVID L. HILLS

David L. Hills died today, Oct. 13, 2000, at his home. He was 38.

Mr. Hills was a member of the usher board of Travelers Rest M.B. Church. He graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1979 and received his certified nursing assistant’s degree from American College School of Nursing. He was a Red Cross instructor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert B. Hills Sr.; his maternal grandmother, Martha Jointer; and his paternal grandparents, Susie Neal and Joe Hills.

Survivors include a son, Sherman Green of Vicksburg; his mother, Ruby Lee Jointer Hills of Vicksburg; four brothers, Lawrence Jointer of Fort Washington, Md., Robert B. Hills Jr. of Vicksburg, Ruben J. Hills of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Carl Edward Hills of Richmond, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Alice Green of Colton, Calif., Barbara A. Johnson of Jackson and Martha R. Fairley of Raleigh, N.C.; and his maternal grandfather, the Rev. R.J. Jointer of Cary.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

SAVANNAH YVONNE HOLMES

ANGUILLA Savannah Yvonne Holmes died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Memphis. She was 86.

Mrs. Holmes is survived by four sisters, Sarah Holmes and Cornelius Holmes, both of California, Alleane Thomas of Anguilla and Beatrice Grisby of Chicago.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christian Light M.B. Church in Anguilla. Burial will follow at Anguilla Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

JOE SHEARS

CARY Joe Shears died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 80.

Mr. Shears is survived by a brother, William Shears of Cary; two sisters, Annie Bell Shears of Anguilla and Helen Lee of California.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church in Fitler. Burial will follow at the Cary Community Cemetery in Cary under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
