John R. Browman

John R. Browman died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Medical Center in Jackson. He was 75.

Mr. Browman was a native of Minnesota and had been a resident of Vicksburg since 1952.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps at Iwo Jima, Guadacanal and Guam. He also served in Korea and and was a survivor of the Chosin Reservation.

Mr. Browman was a retired instrumentation engineer with the Pipefitters and Plumbers Local. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the “Chosin Few”, “Cooties,” and the Moose Lodge. He was also an Eagle Scout. After his retirement, Mr. Browman worked with Laborers for Christ of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He and his wife helped build eight churches across the country. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.

Mr. Browman was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Wessie Lee Browman of Vicksburg; a son, David J. Browman of Brandon; a daughter, Deborah B. Outman of Madison; a brother, George Browman of Reno, Nev., two sisters, Doris Healy of El Centro, Calif. and Mavis P. Brown of Calgary Canada; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be Monday at 7 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Memorials may be made to the Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranches of Mississippi or to the Messiah Lutheran Church at 301 Cain Ridge Road.

Robert A. Earl

Robert A. Earl died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 47.

Mr. Earl was employed as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Earl of Vicksburg; his parents, Alvin and Edna Earl Fields of Valley Park; four sons, Robert Earl, James Watkins, Antonia Watkins and Gary Hardy, all of Vicksburg; a daughter, Edna M. Earl of Vicksburg; a brother, Michael Fields of Valley Park; a sister, Betty E. Dykes of Houston, Texas; an uncle, Johnny Earl of Tallulah; two aunts, Addie Carter of Vicksburg and Valenia Morris of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and the Carter, Earl and McRavin families of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Flem Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Chapel.

Raymond W. Davis

Raymond W. Davis died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his residence. He was 76.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Rhineland campaign and Central European campaign.

He was member of the local pipe fitters union and a past vice-commander of the VFW in Prairieville, La.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Davis; a daughter, Donna Lynn Trost; his parents, William A. Davis and Florence Irene Davis; two brothers Newman Davis and William Anderson Davis; four sisters, Willie Mae Miller, Florence Irene Luby, Mildred Bonita Adams and Alice Stowell.

Mr. Davis is survived by a brother, Walter Scott Davis of Carthage, Tenn.; a sister, Mary Edna Dunham of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Michael Alan Davis and Gerald Ray Davis of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Marc Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Pallbearers will be Gerald R. Davis Jr., William Beyl, Billy Freeman, Bill Ricks, Walter Kinnebrew and Roger Fillebaum.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jon Jackson, Dr. Joel Sullivan, the staff of Oshners Hospital, Dr. Hildon Sessums, Buren Babbit, Charles Broussard and members of the Gonzales VFW.

Adell King

Adell King died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. King was a homemaker and a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Willie Nailor Pickens; a son, Ernest Marley; a brother, Hossley Pickens; and a grandson, Willie B. Jones.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Trudy James and Gwen Heath of Vicksburg; and a niece, Juanita Loverraft of Detriot, Mich.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rock of Ages M. B. Church with the Rev. Michael Reed officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.
