JEAN McNAY BIRD

Jean McNay Bird died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 80.

A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Mrs. Bird had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 27 years. She was the daughter of the late Charles McNay and Jane Mills. She was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex L. Bird, and a brother, Albert McNay.

She is survived by a son, Larry Bird of Vicksburg; two daughters, Gail Bird of Vicksburg and Leah B. Flanigan of Williamsport, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery with Jim Hess officiating under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday at the home of Mrs. Bird.

Pallbearers will be John Simmers, Matthew Coulon, Craig Upton, Ed Minor, David Coulon and Norman Scheffer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jimmy Vessell. Alex Flanigan, Jimmy McNay, Russ White, James McAdams, Skipper McAdams, Al McNay, Don McAdams, Skip McAdams, Roy Flanigan and Eric Flanigan.

ALEX M. BLANCHE JR.

ST. JOSEPH Alex M. Blanche Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at his home in St. Joseph. He was 73.

Mr. Blanche was born in Tendal, La., and was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Tallulah. A golfer, he retired as a petroleum engineer.

He is survived by four sons, Brian Blanche of Vicksburg, Sterling Blanche of St. Joseph, Mark Blanche of Houston, Texas, and Alex M. Blanche III of Kimball, Neb.; one daughter, Mary Alice Furgason of San Antonio, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. Ferre D’Cruz officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 Thursday night at the funeral home with Rosary at 7:30.

Pallbearers will be J.T. Fulton, Billy Post, Cecil Baragona, Louis Buckner, Salo Abrahm Jr. and Oliver Berry.

LOUIS BRADY

Louis Brady died today, Dec. 7, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 83.

Mr. Brady was retired from Waterways Experiment Station. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Brown Brady; a son, Sherman Brown; a stepdaughter, Valeria Thomas; his father, Monroe Brady; his mother, Matilda Garrett; and four brothers, Allen Wilson, Arthur Garrett, Henry Brady and Sherman Garrett.

He is survived by a daughter, Chuty Brady Erves of Vicksburg; a sister, Susan Lucas of Highland Park, Mich.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

MARY LOU DAVIS BURNETT

Services for Mary Lou Davis Burnett will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rock of Ages M.B. Church with the Rev. Hardie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Burnett died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 88.

Mrs. Burnett was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church. She owned Mary Lou’s Beauty Shop for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Burnett Jr.; her father, A.C. Perkins; and her mother, Mary Gibson.

Survivors include two daughters, Bridgett Parker of Southfield, Mich., and Angelea Hunter of Chicago; a brother, Cecil Perkins of Vicksburg; one sister, Lovie Wright of New York, N.Y.; two stepsons, Paul Burnett of Overland Park, Kan., and Henry Burnett of Columbus, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Kate L. Burnett of Overland Park; and other relatives, including Tayna Dews of Leavenworth, Kan., Ida Johnson of West Point, Alice McRaven and Esther Franklin, both of Vicksburg, and the Barnes and Burnett families of Vicksburg.

REV. JIMMY CONN

The Rev. Jimmy Conn died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 58.

Born in Laurel, Rev. Conn had lived in Vicksburg since 1990. He was former pastor of Ellisville Church of God for six years. He was pastor of Vicksburg Church of God on Indiana Avenue and a member of Church of God state music committee.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie B. Conn.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Walters Conn of Vicksburg; a son, Loren Conn of Laurel; his mother, Ollie Daughtry of Ellisville; three sisters, Shirley Windham and Sandra Little, both of Ellisville, and Evelyn Taylor of Brandon.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Vicksburg Church of God on Indiana Avenue with the Revs. Grant Duncan and Paul Burress officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Myrick Cemetery in Laurel.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Thursday night at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the service Friday at the church.

Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Church of God.

ROBERT TARLETON

HERMANVILLE Robert “Bo” Tarleton died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 55.

Mr. Tarleton is survived by three brothers, Major Tarleton of Alexandria, La., Ernest Tarleton and Carl Tarleton, both of Port Gibson; three sisters, Mary J. Dotson and Edna Tarleton, both of Port Gibson, and Helen McComb of Lorman; and other relatives including Louis Davis and Catherine Anderson, both of Port Gibson, Willie Davis and Frankie Davis, both of Waukegan, Ill., Green Lee Davis of Chicago and George Davis of Knoxville, Tenn.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow at the Davis Family Cemetery in Hermanville under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from noon until the service Saturday at the church.

SYLVIA TYLER

PORT GIBSON Sylvia Tyler died Dec. 3, 2000, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 98.

Mrs. Tyler was a member of Salem Christian Church.

She is survived by a son, Robert E. Green of Port Gibson; two brothers, Walter Brown of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jimmy Brown of Greenville; three nieces, Lois Lockhart, Irene Holmes and Leola Williams, all of Port Gibson; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Springhill Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Revs. Freddie Harris and Douglas Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Ball Hill Cemetery in the Grand Gulf community under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
