VIVIAN ARLENE POSEY GRISSOM
TALLULAH Vivian Arlene Posey Grissom died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southhaven. She was 79.
Mrs. Grissom was a lifelong resident of Tallulah and a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tallulah.
Mrs. Grissom is survived by two daughters, Joyce Richmond of Tucson, Ariz., and Jeanette Kellems of Greenville; one sister, Freida Strickland of Caruthersville, Mo.; one brother, Harold Posey of Leachville, Ark.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.
JOHNNIE PRICE TAYLOR
Johnnie Price Taylor died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 98.
Mrs. Taylor worked for Baer Brothers Department store and she operated Taylor’s Grocery Store with her husband.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and a member of Acacia Chapter Eastern Star.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Taylor; a daughter, Joan Earl Taylor Hurdle; three brothers, Joseph Duncan Price Sr., McGrew Price and Robert Lee Price; and three sisters, Emma Price Pahnka, Annie Price Wisdom and Sarah Lucile Price.
She is survived by four nephews, John L. Price of Jackson, John M. Price of Vicksburg, and Sherrill C. Price and Donald L. Price of Melbourne, Fla.; three nieces, Martha Price Leese and Mary Catherine Price Crawford, both of Vicksburg, and Doris Price Fitzgerald of Louisville, Ky.; a grandson, John Adam Hurdle of Merritt Island, Fla.; one granddaughter, Sally Hurdle Gibson of Merritt Island; and two great-granddaughters.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Thomas officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Jones, A.K. Jones, Richard Price, Greg Price, Steve Price, David Leese and Allan Leese.
PINK EARL TOWNSEND SR.
Pink Earl Townsend Sr. died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his residence. He was 65.
Mr. Townsend was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and a retired truck driver for Ready Mix.
Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his mother, Earlceil Smoot; one sister, Gwen Townsend; and three brothers, John Townsend, Fred Townsend and Freeman Townsend.
He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Carr of Charlotte, N.C., and Pink Earl Townsend Jr. of Baytown, Texas; four daughters Sonya Carr and Dana Northern of Crosby, Texas, Jamita Harper of Vicksburg and Richelle Townsend of Los Angeles; two sisters, Shirley Sanders of Wynona and Earline Townsend of Chicago; 10 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
Arrangements were incomplete with Williams Funeral Service.
JENNIE B. WITTY
Jennie B. Witty died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 89.
Mrs. Witty was A lifelong resident of Vicksburg and a graduate of Vicksburg High School.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Mercy Auxilliary, Historical Society, Book Club, The Salvation Army, First Presbyterian Church, and the Vicksburg Foundation for Historic Preservation.
Mrs. Witty was preceded in death by her husband, N.W. Witty; her parents, Frank T. and Louisa “Lula” Katzenmeir Barber; six brothers, Frank A. Barber, Harry W. Barber, Charles L. Barber, Robert T. Barber, Louis Phillip Barber and Aubrey Lee Barber; and one sister, Mary Lucille Simrall.
She is survived by three sons, Robert W. Witty of Palm Coast, Fla., John B. Witty of Oveido, Fla., and Frank A. Witty of Baton Rouge; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces nephews and other relatives including Mary Jane Lauderdale and Josephine S. Gilliland, both of Vicksburg.
Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harry Gilliland Jr., Don Flowers, Billy Lauderdale, Ricky Theobald, Joe Lauderdale and Karsten Simrall.
