RILEY DOYLE ALFORD

Riley Doyle Alford died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Heritage House Nursing Center. He was 93.

Mr. Alford was a native of Clay County. He graduated from Lineville High School and attended Auburn University. He worked in a fruit and vegetable packing house in Winter, Fla., then worked as a rod man on low-water survey with the Vicksburg District Corps of Engineers. He was transferred to the District laboratory in the Foundation and Materials Branch and retired as chief of the Laboratory Section in June 1972.

He was a charter member of the Vicksburg Engineers Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Mr. Alford was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Amanda Hodnett Alford; five sisters; and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Louise Logue Alford of Vicksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Elizabeth Alford Akenson and James Edward Akenson of Cookeville, Tenn.; and a granddaughter, Ashley Britta Akenson of Decatur, Ga.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall and the Rev. J.L. Noble officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Friday night at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Otto A. Logue Jr., Albert L. Hoxie Jr., Henry Logue, Gerald Hosemann, Ken Harper, Albert H. Paxton Jr., Ronald Noble and David Hosemann.

SHERMAN PATTERSON

PATTISON Sherman Patterson died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Patterson was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Herman Patterson, Henry Patterson and Horace Patterson; and a sister, Marie Patterson.

He is survived by his wife, Matilda Patterson of Pattison; six sons, Phillip Patterson, Sherman Patterson Jr., Kenny Patterson and Donald Patterson, all of Pattison; Herman Patterson of New York, N.Y., and Carl Jefferies of Port Gibson; seven daughters, Sirena Patterson, Hazel Howard, and Penny Patterson, all of Pattison, Annie Patterson, Josie Connor and Johnnie Pippins, all of Roosevelt, N.Y., and Hattie Haley of Washington, D.C., two stepdaughters, Henriette Phelps of Baker, La., and Deborah Green of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, T.J. Patterson of Jackson and Wade Patterson of Chicago; a sister, Arnarae Camphor of Pattison; 25 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at A.W. Watson Elementary School in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Pattison Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the service Sunday at the school.

ETHEL K. SANDERS

Ethel K. “Dump” Sanders died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 90.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Sanders retired as a maid from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Trevillion, and a daughter, Ethel Louise Sanders.

She is survived by two daughters, Helen G. Sanders of Vicksburg and Wilma Reed of Los Angeles; three grandsons, Raymond Sanders of Florida and Kevin Otis and Brian K. Sanders, both of Vicksburg; and four great-grandchildren.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

MATTIE SUE WALLACE

MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark. Mattie Sue Wallace died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Ark. She was 64.

A sales clerk, Mrs. Wallace was of the Pentecostal faith.

She is survived by her children, Gus Newman of Natchez and Lanna Edens and Rocky Newman, both of Vidalia, La.; three brothers, Huey Stigall of Iuka, Ronnie Stigall of Blytheville, Ark., and Cody Fulgham of Delta; five sisters, Betty Johnson of Salem, Ark., Carolyn Littleford of Gepp, Ark., Linda Sipes of Blytheville, Terry Lawrence of Viola, Ark., and Shirley Scott of Gulfport; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were Sunday at First United Pentecostal Church in Winnsboro with the Revs. Gary Howington and Donnye Cooper officiating. Burial followed at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Community Memorial Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

CEDRIC WARE

DONTAE WARE

Brothers Cedric Ware and Dontae Ware died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, as the result of a fire at their home. Cedric was 5 and Dontae was 14 months.

They were preceded in death by a sister, Samantha Ware.

They are survived by their parents, Don Bingham and Gloria Ware; six sisters, Tina Ware, Amanda Ware, Donyelle Ware, Gloria Ware, Donna Ware and Kristina Ware; two brothers, Marcus Ware and Don Ware; and cousins, including Lakeisha Bingham.

Services for both will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Robbins Funeral Home with Douglas Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Babyland at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Sunday and until the service Monday at the funeral home.

WILLIE J. WELCH

EDWARDS Services for Willie J. Welch will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Oak Ridge M.B. Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery.

Mr. Welch died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in Detroit. He was 40.

A native of Edwards, Mr. Welch was a bricklayer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. and Jannie Hicks Welch; a brother, Lewis Welch; and two sisters, Betty Dixon Welch and Jerlean Welch.

He is survived by a daughter, Shanice Ruffins; four brothers, John Percy Welch, Shepeard Welch, Robert Welch and Lewis Brown Welch; six sisters, Mary Welch, Shirley Welch, Diane Welch Dillard, Annette Foster, Mary Louise Brown and Michelle Ren Chambers; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including members of the Whitley, Hicks, Kelker, Yates, Morgan and Young families.
