Remembering the children

Amye Scott, whose son, A.J. Scott, died Sept. 2, 1998, hangs a paper butterfly on a tree in Pemberton Square mall Saturday. The tree, adorned with paper butterflies, is a memorial to A.J. and other children who have died. The butterflies, which carry the names of the children and messages to them, are placed on the tree by relatives and friends. The idea for the tree came from a similar one by Compassionate Friends, a national organization for families who have suffered the death of a child. The local group will keep the tree at the mall until Christmas. For information on the local group, call Trisha Zingery at 638-5579. (The Vicksburg Post/ROB MAXWELL)
