LUCY CLAGETT CARPENTER

PORT GIBSON Lucy Clagett Carpenter died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 85.

A native of Natchez, Mrs. Carpenter had lived in Biloxi for 20 years before moving back to Port Gibson in 1969. She was a graduate of Port Gibson High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, stationed in Camp Lejeune, N.C. for two years. She was employed with Parks Lumber for several years. She retired from Chamberlain-Hunt Academy.

Survivors include three sons, Andy Carpenter of Ocean Springs and J.O. Carpenter and Charles R. Carpenter, both of Port Gibson; a daughter, Louise Wilson of Ocean Springs; her mother, Louise O. Ainsworth of Jackson; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. today until the services at the church.

Pallbearers will be Bill Case, Bill Cassell, Hal Gage, Tanner Swetman, Mott Headley Jr., Hank Drake, Robert Gage and Doug Stroud.

Memorials may be made to Port Gibson United Methodist Church or to Chamberlain-Hunt Academy.

VIRGINIA G. HANNAH

Virginia G. “Mama” Hannah died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 90.

A native and lifelong resident of Warren County, Mrs. Hannah was the daughter of the late James Charles and Nannie Rainey Hagan. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oak Ridge Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston “Jack” Hannah; two sisters and a brother.

Survivors include a son, James G. Hannah of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Donnie Clark and Tony Keen, both of Vicksburg; three nieces, Joy Adams, Dorothy Fleming and Frances Meadows, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jack Pace, Randy Pruitt, Ira Irvin, Pete Stubbs, Bubba Comans, Elbert Redditt Jr., James Carter and Johnny Rainey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Adams, Jimmy Ervin, Billy Hayes, J.C. Pettway and Roger Graham.

LAMAR R. MASSENGALE

NEWELLTON Lamar R. Massengale died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday. He was 71.

Born in Jasper County, Miss., Mr. Massengale was a farmer.

He is survived by two sisters, Winnie Hailes of Pearlington and Florence Isabell of Cave Springs, Ga.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial was under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

LOUISE JONES SANDERS

Louise Jones Sanders died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 66.

A native of Cary, Mrs. Sanders lived most of her life in Dallas. For the past 10 years she had lived in Vicksburg. She was a member of Bradley’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Sanders; a sister, Betty Jean Kirksey; and a brother, Shannon Jones.

Survivors include five sons, Jerry Elliott of Glen Allen, Bruce Elliott of Demopolis, Ala., William Elliott and Adam Sanders, both of Vicksburg, and Albert Carl Sanders of Dallas; three daughters, Sherill Saucedo of Vicksburg, Sherri Lynn Loesch of Vinton, La., and Sharon Lee Elliott of Dallas; four brothers, Curtis Jones of Gas, Ind., George Jones and David Jones, both of Vicksburg, and Jesse Jones of Phoenix; three sisters, Daisy Miller of Vicksburg, Shirley Holman of Delta, La., and Bonnie Fortner of Anguilla; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Herron officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Indianola.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Allen Jones, Dale Jones, Chris Jones, Shane Jones, Archie Sanchez and Arcue Steve Sanchez.
