CHARLES HERCHEL CULPEPPER

ROLLING FORK Charles Herchel Culpepper died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

He was 73.

Mr. Culpepper was a native of Birmingham and made his home in Rolling Fork for the past 33 years. He was the owner and manager of Culpepper Insurance Co. and a master woodturner. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of the Rotary Club, the Salvation Army, the Magnolia Woodturners of Mississippi, the Craftsman’s Guild of Mississippi and the American Association of Woodturners. He served on the Board of Aldermen for the City of Rolling Fork. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Bailey Culpepper of Rolling Fork; two daughters, Celeste Hankins and Tracye Anderson, both of Rolling Fork; two sisters, Mildred Reynolds of Notasulda, Ala. and Jo McAuley of Hardyville, Va.; a brother, Thomas Rushing Culpepper of State Line, Miss.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork with the Revs. Millard L. Caulder and Reese Kyzar and Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will follow at Mound Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service today at the church.

Pallbearers will be Thad Virden, Robert McAfee, Frank Corban, Jerry Grant, James Thomas, Charlie White, Adrian Sturdivant and Webb Stribling.

Honorary pallbearers will be past and current deacons of First Baptist Church, Men’s Bible class, Magnolia Woodturners, Craftsman’s Guild and Dr. Danny Jackson.

ALFONSO MASON

Alfonso Mason died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

He was 67.

Mr. Mason was retired from LeTourneau Co. and Bunge as a welder. He was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Percy Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Angella Johnson Mason of Vicksburg; two sons, Sean Mason and Sylvester Cunningham, both of Vicksburg; one daughter, Cheryl White of Sunshine, La.; his mother, Atlanta Harris Mason of Lorman; six brothers, Jimmy Mason of St. Joseph, Nathaniel Mason of Fayette, Calvin Mason of Bloomington, Minn., Joseph E. Mason of Jackson and Arthur Mason and Robert E. Mason, both of Chicago; six sisters, Lula M. Taylor of Ferriday, La., Derotha Jackson of Vicksburg, Dixie Lee Mason and Martha Crayton, both of Lorman, and Alice Foster and Cari Johnson, both of Chicago; four grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins, including Sylvester Mason of Vicksburg.

WILLIAM W. MOORE

CARY William W. “Bill” Moore died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Onward.

He was 77.

A native of Cary, Mr. Moore was a lifelong farmer. He graduated from Cary High School and attended Mississippi State College. He served in the Marine Corps in World War II.

He was a member and past vestry member of the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in rolling Fork.

He was preceded in death by by his parents, Julian Hamilton and Virginia Watson Moore, and a daughter, Frances Barbara Moore.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances “Rickey” Moore of Cary; a son, William Moore II of Cary; a sister, Jane Raney of Cary; and two granddaughters, Frances Virginia Moore and Julia Anne Moore, both of Cary.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Susan Bear, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the Moore home.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Peay, Bill Crawford, Donald Harris, Charlie Darden, Pat Chiesm, Denon Melton, Bill Stark, Mike Lamensdorf, Charles Weissinger and Bob Lee.
