CHARLES WILLIAM ARTHUR

Charles William Arthur died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 59.

A native of Bastrop, La., Mr. Arthur had lived in Vicksburg for 32 years. He was an electrician for 38 years and had worked for Ace Electric Co., Heard Electric Co. and Pan American Electric Co. He was a member of Living Waters Christian Fellowship Church.

He is survived by his wife, Georgenia E. Arthur of Vicksburg; three sons, Charles Andrew “Andy” Arthur, Garry Wayne Arthur and David Allen Arthur, all of Vicksburg; his parents, Andrew Dee Arthur Sr. and Pauline Ethel W. Arthur, both of Bastrop, two brothers, Andrew Dee Arthur Jr. and Garry Don Arthur, both of Bastrop; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Doyle Moulder, pastor of Living Waters Christian Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Burt Day, Skylar Arthur, Lester Whorton, Francis Jackson, John Gilmore, Jimmy Brooks and Robert Sullivan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert Porter, Joe Gay, Edward Clark, Burt Boware, Pearson Gay and Billy Heard.

MARY EVELYN BROWN

Mary Evelyn Brown died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at her daughter’s home in Vicksburg. She was 65.

A native of Sunflower County, Mrs. Brown had lived in Magee for 26 years. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Brown; her father, Teate Nathaniel Wilkerson; a grandson, Bobby Shiers; and two brothers, Charles Wilkerson and Skippy Wilkerson.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Wade of Athens, Texas, and Thomas Earl Wade of Vicksburg; three daughters, Mary Burleson and Margaret Ann Botsford, both of Vicksburg, and Barbara Nell Henderson of DeQuincy, La.; her mother, Claudis Ann Brown of Vicksburg; her brother, James Howard Wilkerson of Dallas; two sisters, Earline Halterman and Janie Wilkerson Johnson, both of Vicksburg; and 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Good Hope Cemetery in Magee. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Wade, Thomas Wade, Thomas Wade Jr., Travis Wade, Scottie Shiers, Ronnie Carter, Jesse Cole and Donald Carter.

CARL ANDR… FLOWERS

Services for Carl Andr Flowers will be at noon Wednesday at Triumph Church with the Rev. Charles Chiplin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home and from 11 a.m. until the service Wednesday at Triumph Baptist Church.

Mr. Flowers, chef at Andr’s Restaurant at Cedar Grove Mansion Inn since 1992, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 44.

Best known as Chef Andr, Mr. Flowers was a native of Vicksburg and a graduate of Vicksburg High School. He attended Jackson State University, where he studied business, but his major interest was food.

Mr. Flowers was at one time an aerobics and dance instructor, teaching at the YMCA, and he served as a personal trainer for Miss Mississippi in 1990.

Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Flowers Sr., and two brothers, Robert Wayne Flowers, and William O. Flowers, who was an assistant principal at Vicksburg Junior High School and died in August at the age of 52.

He is survived by his mother, Geneva Bowman Flowers of Vicksburg; three brothers, Dennis Flowers Jr., and Edward J. Flowers, both of Vicksburg, and Michael Flowers of Brandon; and one sister, Gladys E. Cage of Chicago.

CATHERINE S. HACKETT

Catherine S. Hackett died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at her home. She was 79.

Born in Semmes Chapel, Ala., Mrs. Hackett had lived in Vicksburg since 1945. She had been employed with the Valley Dry Goods and J.C. Penney for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester B. Hackett.

Survivors include her daughter, Faye W. Aspinall of Memphis; her son, William E. “Bill” Willoughby of Vicksburg; two sisters, Helen Hudson of Jackson, Ala., and Jackie Malone of Chunchula, Ala; five brothers, the Rev. Ahlvin C. Sullivan of Whistler, Ala., Aubrey L. Sullivan Sr. of Clinton, G. Leonard Sullivan of Jackson, Ala., Wilson D. Sullivan of Mobile, Ala., and Robert E. Sullivan of Deerpark, Ala.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Ahlvin C. Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
