FRANCES CHRISTINE GIRARD
Frances Christine Girard died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 80.
Born in Moundville, Ala., Mrs. Girard was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Monroe and Sara Della Phares Griffin; a brother, Ira Aubrey Griffin; and two sisters, Millie Harris and Kathleen Crouse.
Survivors include a son, George Girard Jr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Sandra Seiler of Memphis; two brothers, Phares Griffin and Johnny Griffin, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Fannie Ledlow of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, David Girard and Susan Cupit, both of Vicksburg, Carol Sargent of Nashville, Ruth Seiler of Memphis and Sheila Seiler of Boston; one great-grandchild, Ryan Cupit of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.
Services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Barnes officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were David Girard, Clay Griffin, Robert Griffin, Johnny Ledlow, David Crouse, Rome Rushing, Kennon Cupit and Billy Griffin.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Walter Johnston and Dr. Bobby Graham.
CARRIE BROWN PRISOCK
PORT GIBSON Carrie Brown Prisock died Monday, March 26, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital. She was 96.
A homemaker, Mrs. Prisock was a native of Simpson County and had lived in Claiborne County since 1934. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Sarepta United Methodist Church, where she participated yearly in the Sarepta Homecomings until 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney Elliott Prisock.
She is survived by a son, Howard Brown Prisock of Port Gibson; a daughter, Justine Prisock Emanuel of Lorman; nieces, including Peggie Marx of Port Gibson; and nephews.
Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson. Burial followed under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Clovis Reed, Jimmy Middleton, Kenneth Harrell, Jimmy Embry, Allen Brown and Jim Cassell.
GEORGE T. RIVERS
George T. Rivers died Monday, March 26, 2001, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 62.
Mr. Rivers was a native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was the son of the late Thomas D. and Evelyn Beck Rivers. He retired from the Navy as an electronics mechanic with more than 21 years of service. He also worked for Sigmaform for many years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 3 and First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracy R. Rogers of Vicksburg; a son, Robert Rivers of Vicksburg; three brothers, Ernest Rivers of Vicksburg, Billy Rivers of Bolton and Frank Rivers of New Orleans; a sister, Alice R. Parkerson of Vicksburg; five grandchildren and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers will be W.G. Allen, Johnny Sanders, Jon Ellis, Dusty Jackson, Darin Tharpe, Charles Miles, W.A. Jackson, Tony Powell and employees of Holiday Beverage.
MILTON ODESSA SELF
Milton Odessa Self died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at North Monroe Medical Center in Monroe. He was 68.
Mr. Self was a former Vicksburg policeman and later became owner and operator of Self Plumbing Co. in Gulfport. He joined the local union in Gulfport as a pipefitter. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David Daniel and Nora Ward Self; and three sisters, Omie Lea Cranford, Lera A. Garrett and Eron Jordan.
He is survived by a brother, Thomas J. Self of Dry Prong, La.; two sisters, Ruth Edna Janes and Nora Lee Sullivan, both of Monroe; and other relatives.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Simmons officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from noon Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.
