LAVERNE ALLEN

Laverne “Lola” Allen died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 40.

A clerical worker for Dixie Plaza, Mrs. Allen was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Kahee; and her mother, Mary E. Flowers Allen.

She is survived by a son, Cedrick Allen of Vicksburg; her daughter, Latricia Allen of Memphis; six brothers, Freddie Amos, John Amos, Jeffery Amos and Ernest Allen, all of Vicksburg, Luster J. Amos Hill of Pittsburg, Calif., and James L. Allen Jr. of Dallas; four sisters, Rita Ivy and Gloria Meeks, both of Chicago, Janie Horton of Jackson and Shirley Gattison of Duluth, Ga.; four grandchildren; and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of the arrangements.

JULIA MARIE CARPENTER

PORT GIBSON Julia Marie Carpenter died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Claiborne County Nursing Home. She was 55.

Mrs. Carpenter was a Claiborne County native. She retired as a secretary for the Claiborne County superintendent. She was a member of King David Christian Church in Hermanville.

Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Barnes Banks, and her father, Major Davis.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Carpenter of Port Gibson; a daughter, Gwendolyn Carpenter Hicks of Jackson; her stepfather, George Banks of Port Gibson; five brothers, James H. Davis and Jerome Davis, both of New Orleans, Sammie E. Davis of Birmingham, Ala., Bobbie L. Davis of Los Angeles and Kevin D. Davis of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Shirley A. Madukwe of Nashville; two grandchildren; cousins, including Mary Tripplet of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends, including Bettie Wiley of Vicksburg and Bertha Bailey of Port Gibson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at King David Christian Church with Elder Willie Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Turnipseed Family Cemetery in Hermanville.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 tonight at Rollins Chapel in Port Gibson.

JeKELCY JOHNSON

PORT GIBSON JeKelcy Johnson died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital as the result of a gunshot wound. He was 20.

A Port Gibson resident, Mr. Johnson was a student at Alcorn State University where he was on the football team.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Davey Whitney Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex on the Alcorn State campus.

Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson has charge of arrangements.

PERRY C. ROBERTS

Perry C. Roberts died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 68.

Mr. Roberts was a native of Leake County and had lived in Vicksburg since 1977. He owned and operated Perry Roberts Drywall Co. for 46 years. He was a member of Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edward and Kattie Bell Davis Roberts, and a brother, Davis Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Roberts of Vicksburg; two sons, Buddy Roberts and P.K. Roberts, both of Vicksburg; three daughters, Mary Jane Long of Brandon, Gwendelyn R. Gates of Vicksburg and Katherine Michelle Skinner of Caraway, Ark.; three brothers, Acey Roberts and Arnold Roberts, both of Richland, and Lydel Roberts of Harris; three sisters, Lyda Dell Pickle of Brunswick, Ga., Arnita Shurden of Jackson and Paulette Vauglne of Florence; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Elder Darren Owens officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Morgan Gates, Grady Long, Mark Dement, Gil Smith, Rusty Roberts and Robbie Cowart.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Pittman, Clayton Strong and

Archie Blair.

AUDREY VINCENT SCHAFF

Audrey Vincent Schaff died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at his home in Metairie, La. He was 91.

Mr. Schaff was a native of Plaquemine, La., and lived in Vicksburg for 62 years. He was one of three developers of Magnolia Mobile Homes Corp. in Vicksburg. He served as secretary-treasurer of Newpark Resources for eight years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George Schaff and Meredith Schaff; and a granddaughter, Marie Danielle Guichard.

Mr. Schaff is survived by his wife, Clara Callahan Schaff of Metairie; three daughters, Marian Theresa Beall of Columbus, Jeanne Marie Guichard of Metairie and Mary Claire Maggio of College Station, Texas; one son, Dr. David C. Schaff of Nacogdoches, La.; one sister, Anne Jones of Omaha, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and other relatives, including Rosemary Schaff of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with Rosary at 6:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Sean-Vincent Maggio, Catherine M. Schaff, Clare M. Guichard, Damien Robert Maggio, David E. Beall, George M. Schaff and Stephen D. Guichard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Guichard, Robert Maggio and Joe Beall.
