Billy Joe Heggins, Warren County deputy investigator, uses a metal chop saw at the Warren County Highway Department to destroy criminal evidence, including knives, rifles, shotguns, pistols and brass knuckles Monday. The weapons, ordered to be destroyed by Justice Court Judge Joseph Crevitt, were collected as evidence in cases ranging from traffic stops to assaults. Heggins said officers randomly perform such operations when ordered. “Basically (we do it) to keep them from getting into the wrong hands.” The weapons from the Justice Court evidence locker date back to 1985.
