[02/22/01] The only seniors on Vicksburg High’s state championship team will get together for one more game. And just for good measure, they’ll have the same coach.

Halfback Courtney Chapman and fullback Kim Griffin, along with two Warren Central girls, have been selected to play for the North in the state all-star game in Raymond on July 14.

Their coach will be Kevin Manton, who helped guide the Missy Gators to a fourth state championship in six years earlier this month. His co-coach will be Madison Central’s Mike Curley.

WC’s Kim Hughes, a midfielder, and Melanie Mendrop, a defender, will also play on the elite team.

The local boys’ teams will also be represented on the North squad.

WC defender Daniel Sumerall and Andy Hite helped the Vikings make the playoffs this season. Both are defenders.

John Griffing of Vicksburg High is the Gators’ lone selection.

Anjan Karmacharya of Columbus and Michael Curry of Grenada will coach the team.

The South boys will be coached by Andy Kivlan of St. Stanislaus and Randy West of Brandon. Karl Fiedrich of Harrison Central and Fred Schelver of Brandon will coach the South girls.

There are 16 players on each squad.
