McCOMB Marvin Franklin Meyers died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb. He was 81.

Mr. Meyers was born in Franklin County. He was a retired surveyor and lab technician with the Mississippi Department of Highways. He was an. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the American Theater Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of East McComb Baptist Church where he was in the church choir, the adult men’s Sunday school class No. 2 and the church visitors team.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Frank Myers and Martha Ann Womack Myers; and a sister, Mable Myers.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Wingate Myers of McComb; three daughters, Marilyn “Susie” Leonard of Lafayette, La., Maureen Ott and Martha Lambert, both of Vicksburg; three sons, Ronnie Myers, “Tom Bill” Myers and Bob Myers, all of Slidell, La.; two sisters, Mary Ann Lee of McComb and Jane Brumfield of Silver Creek; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb with the Rev. Rick Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. Friday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Lambert, Ken Lambert, Russell Myers, Travis Myers, Alex Myers, Ron Ott, Mike Ott, David Leonard and Brian Leonard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Wigginton, Scout Williams, Charles Humes, Glen Gatlin and members of the men’s adult Sunday school class No. 2.

RUTH ANN SMITH

Services for Ruth Ann Smith will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove M.B. Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Sharkey-Issaquena Community Hospital. She was 91.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith Sr.; two sons, Mark Smith and Nathan Smith; a daughter, Bonnie Haymond; her mother, Maude Lee; and her father, Dan Kirkland.

She is survived by six sons, Frank Smith Jr. of Dallas, Willie Harold Smith of San Diego, Francis Smith of Chicago, Harvey Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla., Dan D. Smith of Philadelphia, Pa., and Rufus Duff Smith of Vicksburg; five daughters, Emma Benard, Mary Wilmore and Anna Maude Jones, all of Chicago, and Alice Hill and Barbara Pierce, both of Vicksburg; 46 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and other relatives including Robert Chapman of Chicago and Doris Johnson of Vicksburg.

CHARLES STEVENS

Charles Stevens died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 66.

Born in Hollandale, Mr. Stevens had lived in Vicksburg for the past 42 years. He retired as an insurance salesman for Life of Georgia and was a veteran of the Air Force.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Stevens was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Stevens of Vicksburg; a daughter, Stephane Stevens McWhorter of Vicksburg; one brother, Earl Stevens of Dyersburg, Tenn.; two sisters, Ann Spradlin and Claudia Cage, both of Hollandale; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Spence and Eric Kitchens officiating. Burial will follow at Redbone Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Cage, Steve Spradlin, Tanner Abney, Mike Abney, Robert Cade, Tommy Reed, Jason Cade and Jackie Phelps.

Honorary pallbearers will be Everette Verhine, Doug Tanner, Dan Trussel, Kathi Ragland, B.J. Shows, Tony Hynum, Van Abney and Charles Haley.

ELLA F. WARD

ROLLING FORK Ella F. Ward died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Rolling Fork. She was 94.

Mrs. Ward was born in Morton and lived in Delta City for 75 years. She was a member of The Church of God in Delta City.

She is survived by a son, Walter R. Ward of Eureka Springs, Ark.; two daughters, Linda K. King of Anguilla and Bobbie Jean McCool of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Gladys Wilson of Coulterville, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. James Milner officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Brown, Tommy Brown, David Brown, Bill Brown, Jimmy Nichols and Russ Bridges.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Bridges and Jason Ward.
