GEORGE ARMSTRONG JR.

CARY George Armstrong Jr. died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his home in Memphis. He was 61.

Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife, Yvette Tucker of Memphis; five sons, Christopher Armstrong, Frederick Charles Armstrong, Merrill Armstrong and Quentin Armstrong, all of Cary, and George Terrell Armstrong of Rolling Fork; four daughters, Doris Armstrong Brown of Cary, Angela Armstrong Prove of Memphis, Marilyn Armstrong Bunton of Columbus, Ga., and Cassandra Armstrong of Rolling Fork; four brothers, Cornelius Armstrong of Cary, Neapolitan Armstrong of Memphis, George Ellis of California and Frank Whitfield of Chicago; five sisters, Lola Smith and Georgia Norwood, both of Cary, Doris Jeffries and Bernice Berry, both of Memphis and Bertha Jackson of Chicago; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Guilding Star M.B. Church in Cary. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery in Cary under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.

RANDOLPH B. HAMLIN SR.

PORT GIBSON Randolph B. Hamlin Sr. died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 86.

Mr. Hamlin was a member of Greater St. Mark M.B. Church and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Yvonne Hamlin and Carolyn Hamlin-Hicks; his parents, Jasper Hamlin and Beulah Hamlin; and two sisters, Elnora Rogers and Hannah Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hamlin of Port Gibson; five sons, Randolph Hamlin Jr. of Little Rock, Ark., David Hamlin of Fayette, Glen Hamlin and Arkee Hamlin, both of Port Gibson, and Vernon Hamlin of Chicago; five daughters, Gloria Odom of Chicago, Stella Greenwood and Ora Lucille Dotson, both of Port Gibson, Elaine Ware of Dallas, Hazel Barnes-Tellis of Kalamazoo, Mich.; a sister, Pecola Kelly of Port Gibson; 27 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from Greater St. Mark M.B. Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Howard officiating. Burial will be at Mercy Seat M.B. Church Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until the service Sunday at the church.

MARY HOPKINS

Services for Mary Hopkins will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gospel Temple M.B. Church with the Rev. Leonard Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Friday night at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Hopkins died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 64.

She was a retired cashier for Jitney Jungle and a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt Sias and Eva Collins Green.

She is survived by a daughter, Eva Hopkins of Jackson; five brothers, Melvin D. Sias of Mayersville, Roosevelt Sias Jr. of Florence, Gene W. Sias of Rosedale, Roy B. Sias of Rolling Fork and Andr D. Sias of Carthage; six sisters, Liz Sias Shannon of Louisville, Ky., Thelma Sias Adams of Milwaukee, Wis., Jackie Sias of Rolling Fork and Gail Sias and Cheryl Sias, both of Cleveland, and Joey J. Sias of Mayersville; and other relatives, including Hattie Ann Brown and Terry Slaughter, both of Vicksburg, Laura Fields and Roberta Cheers, both of Chicago, and Lutisha Ballard of Little Rock.

SYLVESTER MASON

Services for Sylvester “Vest” Mason will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship M.B. Church in Lorman with the Rev. James Bowman officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Mason died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 59.

He was a retired Central Asphalt Co. operator and a member of Fellowship M.B. Church in Lorman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Mason Sr. and Mary Lee Scott Mason.

He is survived by three daughters, Katina Mason of Memphis, Kimberly Mason of Vicksburg and Andrea Mason of Edwards; a stepdaughter, Lisia Rowan of Vicksburg; three brothers, Alex Mason Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, and McArthur Mason and Ricky Mason, both of Natchez; four sisters, Catherine Bailey of Lorman, Lillie Cooper of Chicago, Hazel Gonzalez and Rosetta Mason, both of Kankekee, Ill.; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other relatives.

BETTY GRACE WILSON

Services for Betty Grace Wilson will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Hill M.B. Church with the Rev. Joseph Brown officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Wilson died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Brookside Hospital in Richmond, Calif. She was 78.

She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tim Wilson and Maggie Scott Wilson; two brothers, Lawson Wilson and Elijah “Buddy” Wilson; three sisters, Isabelle Wilson, Emma Longmyle and Mary Washington.

She is survived by a son, Charles J. Wilson Sr. of Vicksburg; a brother, Willie J. Wilson Sr. of Maywood, Ill.; a sister, Sirflonia Washington of Richmond, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives, including the Williams, Gaskin and Washington families of Vicksburg.
