GRACE M. FRANCO

Services for Grace M. Franco were at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. James O’Riordan officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Cemetery.

Mrs. Franco died Monday, July 16, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Franco was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was a 1930 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy, where she was captain of the basketball team.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.

Mrs. Franco was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Rose Gioia Mondelli; three sisters; and a brother.

She is survived by her husband, John J. Franco of Vicksburg; a son, John J. Franco Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Lucille Hossley of Vicksburg; a brother, Joe Mondelli Jr. of Florida; three grandchildren, John M. Franco and Catherine G. Alfaro, both of San Antonio, and Debra Newcomb of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Julianne Alfaro, Samantha Alfaro and John Nolen Newcomb; nieces; and nephews.

Pallbearers were John M. Franco, Raphael Franco Jr., Neil Newcomb, Sammy Franco, Jimmy Hossley and Joe Loviza.

Honorary pallbearers were Raphael Franco, Paul Franco, Frank Vollor, Albert Antoine, “Pug” Franco, Earl Jenkins, Tom Pokrefke, Joe Franco, Louis Arnold and Chris Antoine.

ROSLYN A. LEVY

Roslyn A. Levy died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 87.

Mrs. Levy was a native of Donaldsonville, La., and the daughter of the late Sol and Agathyne Kern Applebaum. She worked as an office assistant in retail sales for a number of years.

She was a member of the Anshe Chesed Temple and a life member of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jacques Levy; two brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bettye and Neal Berlin of Germantown, Tenn.; a brother, Manuel Applebaum of Vicksburg; one granddaughter, Jessica Berlin of Memphis; nephews, including Sol Applebaum of Jackson and Herman Applebaum of Baton Rouge; and nieces.

Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Anshe Chesed Cemetery with Julius Herscovici.

LESTER MYRICK SR.

Lester Myrick Sr. died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Baptist Desoto Memorial Hospital in Southaven. He was 83.

Born in Sandersville, Mr. Myrick moved to Vicksburg in 1948. He had been a Southaven resident since January. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union and Trinity Baptist Church. He served in the Army in World War II.

Mr. Myrick was preceded in death by his parents, S.V. and Cecilia Mae Myrick, and his wife, Justine Myrick.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Myrick of Nashville and Lester Myrick Jr. of Carthage; two daughters, Doreen Beard of Carthage and Barbara Clemens of Hernando; four sisters, Jesse Moses of Vicksburg and Pauline Welch, Ailene Rowell and Blanche Christian, all of Ellisville; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Bounds officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scot Moses, Stoney Moses, Gary Myrick, Anthony Myrick, David Myrick, Jason Beard, Penn Clemens and Randy Myrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be the nursing staff of Baptist Desoto Memorial Hospital, physicians and staff of the Memphis Heart Clinic, Dr. N. Change and Dr. John C. Williams.

JOHNNY D. ROSS SR.

Services for Johnny D. Ross Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Sammy Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ross died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 57.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Paula Ross and Pamela Ross; a son, Ronald “Big Rob” Ross; and his parents, Jonas and Lula Evans Ross.

He is survived by a son, Johnny Ross Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Patricia Ross and Diana Ross, both of Vicksburg; one brother, L.V. Ross of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Frankie Foster, Ada Johnson, Sallie Bailey and Lizzie Mae Rader, all of Vicksburg; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives including Freddie Rader and Johnny Bailey, both of Vicksburg.

DOROTHEA FAYE LOVIZA VEDROS

Dorothea Faye “Dottie” Loviza Vedros died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. She was 77.

Mrs. Vedros, a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, was the daughter of John J. and Mabel Harris Loviza. She was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy and a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Vedros is survived by her husband, Philip Vedros Jr. of Vicksburg; three sons, Philip Vedros III and Stephen Vedros, both of Vicksburg, and Mark Vedros of Madison; three daughters, Mary V. Stewart and Joanne Wright, both of Vicksburg, and Maureen Vedros of Long Beach; two brothers, John W. Loviza of Nashville and Joseph L. Loviza of Vicksburg; two sisters, Blanche Irby of Madison, Ala., and Myrtle Curro of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
