ROMILLER BROWN

PORT GIBSON Services for Romiller Brown will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Christian Church in Port Gibson with Elder James Devine officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Brown died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at her home. She was 90.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Pine Grove Christian Church and Rose Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Chicago.

She is survived by a niece she reared as a daughter, Evon Stewart of Port Gibson; 10 nieces, Sandra Noble, Shreva Hall, Ann Hall, Lydesha Noble and Robyn Noble, all of Port Gibson, Laverna Moore of Hazlehurst, Ill., Anishia Wilson and Alexis Wilson, both of Natchez, Adrione Taylor of San Francisco, Calif., and Tracy Wilson of Pattison; four nephews she reared as sons, John Amos Newman of Los Angeles, Charles Wilson of Pattison and Silbert Wilson and Harold Wilson, both of Port Gibson; seven nephews, Robert “Tim” Noble, TreVuai Page, Ledell John Page Jr. and Javon Jefferies, all of Port Gibson, Charlie Page of Brookhaven, Rashan Wilson of Fayette and Derrick Jefferies of Detroit; and friends and other relatives, including Vera Page of Port Gibson.

ANNIE JAMES DOUGLAS

Annie James Douglas died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 84.

A homemaker, Mrs. Douglas was a member of St. Luke M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Douglas; her parents, Elijah and Eliza James; five brothers, Ollie James, the Rev. Silas James, the Rev. Thomas James, Robert James and Buster James; and two sisters, Bernice McGee and Elnora Waiter.

She is survived by a daughter, Annie Lee Jones of Vicksburg; two brothers, Roosevelt James of Vicksburg and Elijah James of Jackson; two grandchildren, Dwan Cotton of Dallas and Keith Jones of Port Allen, La.; and great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

AUSTIN McCALPIN

UTICA Services for Austin McCalpin will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Union Church in Utica with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel and from noon until the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. McCalpin died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall. He was 64.

Mr. McCalpin was a member of Second Union Church and a member of the Baptist Aid.

He is survived by his wife, Eddie Rollins-McCalpin of Braxton; two sons, Christopher Lee and Quamenski Hoard, both of Jackson; eight daughters, April Rollins and Dana Rollins, both of Braxton, Yolanda Younger of Pearl, Media Barbor, Elizabeth White, Jennifer Rollins and Laura Rollins, all of Jackson, and Cathy Lee of Pinola; five brothers, Willie Wilkerson, Andrew Jones and Johnnie L. Jones, all of Jackson, J.C. Jones of Port Gibson and Robert L. Smith of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Mary Jones-Newsome of Port Gibson and Leah McGriggs of Utica; 40 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews, other relatives; and friends.

SARAH FORD MOSLEY

Sarah Ford Mosley died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Mosley was born in Centralia, Ill., and graduated from Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo. She worked for the Centralia Sentinel newspaper and was a civilian employee for the Army during World War II.

Mrs. Mosley lived in Vicksburg most of her married life and was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred R. Mosley; and three brothers, Cecil Ford, Ray Ford and Kenneth Ford.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane Mosley Thomas of Vicksburg; one son, Fred Russell Mosley Jr. of Nesbit, Miss.; one sister, Estelle Wilson of Wapello, Iowa; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives, including S.C. Thomas and Marie Mosley, both of Vicksburg, Sherry Mosley of Nesbit and Geraldine Dyer of Marietta, Ga.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall and the Rev. Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Russell Thomas, Mark Thomas, Travis Mosley, Kenneth Mosley, Calvin Ashley and James Harper.

JORDAN SMITH SR.

Services for Jordan Smith Sr. will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church with the Rev. Carl Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 87.

Mr. Smith retired as a fireman from Anderson-Tully Co. He served in the Army in World War II and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jordan and Mamie Austin Smith; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Slaughter; two brothers, Ledell Smith and Matthew Smith; and a sister, Helen Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Davis Smith of Vicksburg; one son, Jordan Smith Jr. of Vicksburg; a stepson, Richard Scott of Vicksburg; three daughters, Linda S. Burnside of Hollandale, Mamie Smith of Las Vegas and Patricia Cole of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Lillian Limbert of Washington, D.C.; 26 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
