[11/27/01]A storm front that moved in over Vicksburg and most of the region overnight may stall here and continue dumping heavy rains for the next three days.
The National Weather Service in Jackson is predicting the rain will continue through Thursday and clear out on Friday.
A flash flood watch is in effect through tonight for Warren, Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties and for Madison Parish and areas in Northeast Louisiana.
“Whatever lack of rainfall we have had we are going to make up for real quick,” said Mark McAllister with the National Weather Service in Jackson.
The 1.56 inches of rain that doused Vicksburg Saturday morning and set off an F4 tornado in Madison Parish was the first precipitation recorded in Warren County this month. As of 6:30 this morning, today’s storm had dropped an additional 1.27 inches across the city.
L.W. “Bump” Callaway, director of the Warren County Emergency Management Agency, said this morning that no damage had been reported.
“It’s been so dry that I think we’ll be OK for now,” Callaway said. “We might get some flash flooding in some of the creeks.”
Throughout the morning, a few trees fell across the county, but no damage was reported.
Separately, an 18-wheeler jack-knifed into the median on Interstate 20 about a mile west of Edwards, slowing traffic along the thoroughfare.
