Ex-WC star earns honor

[05/16/01] Southern Mississippi sophomore Shea Douglas was selected second-team All-Conference USA.
The former Warren Central star led the Golden Eagles (25-30) with a 3.43 ERA and went 5-5.
USM, seeded seventh in the C-USA tournament, played second seed Houston Wednesday morning in the first round.
The tournament is being played in Metairie, La.
Outfielder Jeff Cook was the only other USM player on the second team. Tulane’s Jake Gautreau and Rick Jones were the player and coach of the year, respectively, while UNC-Charlootte’s John Maine was pitcher of the year. Tulane’s Michael Aubrey was freshman of the year.
