BILL CARLISLE

Bill Carlisle died Thursday, July 26, 2001, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 29.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Carlisle attended Grace Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, John W. and Betty G. Carlisle; and his sister, Jennifer Sanderford.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow at Redbone Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Butch Spivey, Kenny Channell, Mike Ouzts, Brad Carlisle, Bud Johnson and Jim McCaskill.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Carlisle, Tom Carlisle, Richard Greer, Keith Parker, Carlton Carlisle and Bubba Johnson.

ANNE JOHNSTON CLARK

Anne Johnston Clark died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Birmingham, Ala. She was 97.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Clark was a descendant of the first U.S. senator. She attended the University of Texas and was a graduate of Mississippi College. She worked in a number of tuberculosis clinics during World War II.

She was a member of numerous organizations in Vicksburg and had served as president of the Mississippi Medical Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Laurance J. Clark, and a son, Dr. Laurance J. Clark Jr.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sara Jane and Dr. Gene V. Ball of Birmingham; a brother, William Patrick Johnston of Jackson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Trinity or to a favorite charity.

EARNESTEEN GILLIAM

FAIRBURN, Ga. Services for Earnesteen Gilliam will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church Ballground with the Rev. Charlie Blackmore officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Gilliam died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Fairburn Health Care Center. She was 84.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gilliam was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Garfield Gilliam Sr.; her parents, Lucious and Fannie Sanders; a son, Lucious Gaskin; and nine siblings.

Survivors include three sons, Merrin Gilliam and Michael Gilliam, both of Hampton, Ga., and William Lee Gilliam of Portland, Ore.; six daughters, Laura Hooks and Lillie Johnson, both of Vallejo, Calif., Lula Gilliam of Fairburn, Mary Gilliam Pines of Fayetteville, N.C., Elve Foster of Richmond, Calif., and Josephine Guise of Flint, Mich.; three brothers, David Sanders of Vicksburg, Henry Sanders of Chicago and Clarence Sanders of Rockford, Ill.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Dorothy Gaskin of Detroit, Earnestine Luckett of Redwood and Zellner Gilliam and Louise Kemp, both of Vicksburg.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

IRENE L. HESTER

Irene L. Hester died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 70.

Born in Midway, Mrs. Hester had lived in Vicksburg for the past 51 years. She was a former employee of Delta Elastic Company and a member of First United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton W. Hester.

She is survived by two sons, William Allen Hester of Mesquite, Texas, and Gary Leroy Hester of Raymond; four daughters, Helen Jones of Plano, Texas, Diane Hester of New Orleans and Beverly Jean Laird and Tina Abney, both of Vicksburg; her brother, Boyce Barham of North Carolina; two sisters, Ruth Kerns of Vicksburg and Euna Hood of Lucedale; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. G.R. Travis and Don Tipton officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Hood, Robert Hood, Randy Walley, Garrett Hester, Danny Tucker, Jamie Tucker and Greg Potts.

WILLIE RUNNELS

Services for Willie Runnels will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Beech Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. James Buck officiating. Burial will follow at Beech grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Friday at Robbins Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Runnels died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. He was 72.

A native of Jefferson County, Mr. Runnels had lived and worked in Vicksburg for a number of years. He was a member of Beech Grove M.B. Church and had worked as a golf course groundskeeper.

He was preceded in death by a son, Willie Miller; his parents, Walker Reynolds Sr. and Alice Brooks; and two brothers, Walker Reynolds Jr. and Harrison Reynolds.

Survivors include a son, Donnie Hicks of Vicksburg; a daughter, Belinda Gray of Vicksburg; a sister, Maggie Hill of Vicksburg; a brother, James Reynolds of Vicksburg; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

HENRY TURNER

PORT GIBSON Henry “Ike” Turner died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 73.

Mr. Turner attended Claiborne County Training School and Alcorn A&M College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed at Port Gibson Box and Veneer Company and at Grand Gulf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Viola Turner.

He is survived by his daughter, Doris Dorsey of Port Gibson; a sister, Evelyn “Tot” Stewart of Chicago; a brother, Isaiah “Two-Honey” Turner of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Iris Harried and John Harried, both of Port Gibson; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Eddie Walls officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
