WALTER BRENT SR.

NEW ORLEANS Walter Brent Sr. died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in New Orleans. He was 49.

Mr. Brent was preceded in death by his father, J.M. Brent; his grandmother, Eliza Martin Price; and his grandfather, Walter Brent.

He is survived by his son, Walter Brent Jr. of New Orleans; his mother, Pearlen Brent of New Orleans; three sisters, Sharekia Brent and Welane Brent Hall, both of New Orleans, and Bettie Brent Wilson of Raceland, La.; three brothers, Michael Brent and James Brent, both of New Orleans, and Clyde Brent of Houston, Texas; two granddaughters, Jasmine Brent and LaKreshia Brent, both of New Orleans; and other relatives, including, Ella Woods, Eddie Brent, Elsa Brent McGowan and the Wood, Brent, McGowan and Thomas families, all of Vicksburg, and Elizabeth Flowers and the Martin family of Utica.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Second Union M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at Second Union M.B. Church Cemetery under the direction of Tilly Funeral Home of New Orleans.

LEONARD CHASE SR.

Services for Leonard Chase Sr. will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Zion Traveler’s M.B. Church in Utica with the Rev. Willie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Chase died Monday, May 20, 2002, at River Region Medical Center West. He was 78.

Mr. Chase was retired from Anderson-Tully Company. He was a member of Greater Zion Travelers M.B. Church in Utica.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, LaQuidea Chase and Carolyn Chase; his parents, Pearline and Sam Chase; a brother, Roosevelt Chase; two sisters, Christine Williams and Adlean Chase; a stepdaughter, LaVerta Winters; and a stepson, Dayton Fields Jr.

He is survived by four sons, John Bell Chase of Utica, Leonard Chase Jr. of New Orleans, Sam Douglas Chase of Vicksburg and Walter Chase of New York; his daughter, LaJoyce James of Vicksburg; a sister, Elzine Chase of Haines City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

JOHN C. HUTCHINSON

John C. Hutchinson died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 71.

A native of Vicksburg, Mr. Hutchinson had lived in Jackson for the past 25 years. He graduated from the University of Mississippi and was a retired clerk for the U.S. government.

He was a member of the Capital Masonic Lodge No. 0600 in Jackson. He was of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Frances Hutchinson; his stepmother, Thelma Hutchinson; and a brother, Harry Hutchinson.

Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor H. Curtis of Newbern, Tenn., and Mildred H. Rone of Vicksburg; and four nieces and four nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Rone, Grey Evans, Greg Phillips, Carl Warden , John B. Curtis and Roy Campbell.

PEARL MEEKS VINCENT

Pearl Meeks Vincent, formerly of Vicksburg, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 71.

Mrs. Vincent received a bachelor of science degree in English education from Jackson State University. She received a master of science in guidance and counseling from Western Michigan University and a specialist’s degree in reading from Jackson State. She did post-graduate work at the universities of Tennessee and Wisconsin, Eau Claire.

She taught in Mississippi public schools and worked for 30 years at Jackson State. She was counselor for the Career Opportunities Program and director of Career Planning and Placement.

She had served as assistant professor of guidance and counseling for 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. George M. Vincent; three sons, Pierre Vincent, Tyrone Vincent and Anton Vincent; her sister, Caldonia Meeks-Thomas; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lynch Street C.M.E. Church in Jackson. Burial will follow at Garden Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home.
