MacNEIL
RAYMOND Marion E. MacNeil died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at her home in Raymond. She was 85.
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., she retired from Sears Catalog Department in 1974. She had lived in Mississippi since 1993.
She was a former member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church in Vicksburg and a member of Raymond Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert T. MacNeil of Vicksburg and John W. MacNeil of Waterford, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Eric Amick, LouAnn Amick and Christen Amick, all of Vicksburg.
Memorial services will be announced later under the direction of Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

JAMES WILLIAM MADDOX
TRANSYLVANIA, La. James William “J.W.” Maddox died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 82.
Born in Magee, Mr. Maddox was a builder in East Carroll Parish. His first construction project was helping build the Old Mississippi River bridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila Pauline Maddox; and his parents, Alex Farley and Minnie Mae Mangum Maddox.
He is survived by his son, Jack F. Hosey of Haughton, La.; two daughters, Brenda Roppolo of Shreveport and Paula Driver of Transylvania; his brother, Carl Maddox of Houma, La.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Transylvania Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Stephens and Percy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Crowe, Roland Hernandez, Scotty Waller, Hal Waller, Thomas F. Terral and William Driver.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Terral, King Trieschman, Reynold Minsky and Archie Lovall.
Memorials may be made to Transylvania Baptist Church or to the Louisiana Cotton Museum.
MARIE RATHER
Marie Rather died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 73.
Mrs. Rather was born in Hinds County and was a member of the Warrenton Church of Christ.
She is survived by one son, William Roland of Utica; a daughter, Vivian Hays of Vicksburg; two brothers, Larry B. Ross of Utica and David Luther Wilson of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Annette Craft of Utica and Flora Ross Comeaux of Rayne, La.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McClellan Cemetery in Hinds County with the Rev. John Ed Snell officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
CLARA ANN STRONG
Clara Ann Strong died today, Jan. 31, 2002, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 88.
A homemaker, Mrs. Strong was a member of China Grove M.B. Church in the Oak Ridge community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Strong; her parents, Jett and Emma Marley; two brothers, Ernest Marley and Richard “Book” Marley; and two sisters, Hattie Warren and Theresa Wilson.
She is survived by a niece, Parthine Brown of Albion, Mich., and a nephew, Willie Evans of Los Angeles.
W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
