DOROTHY L. BLEYER

SMYRNA, Del. Dorothy L. Bleyer died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in Delaware. She was 73.

A former resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Bleyer was a member of First Presbyterian Church and worked as a visiting nurse in Vicksburg and Delta, La. She was a member of the Openwood Plantation community and the Ladies Bridge Club. She retired from nursing in 1985 and began volunteer work.

She was preceded in death by a husband, Joseph F. Lund; a daughter, Elizabeth Lund Mauro; and stepchildren, Francis X. Bleyer Jr. and Mary Ellen Bleyer McNair.

Survivors include her husband, Frank X. Bleyer; four daughters, Karen Lund Butela of Dover, Del., Susan Lund Jones of Bel Air, Md., Sarah Lund Etienne of Burke, Va., and Deborra Lund Bury of Evans, Ga.; three stepchildren, J. Anthony Bleyer of Claymont, Del., Theresa Bleyer Hughes of Bear, Del., and Veronica Bleyer Thomson of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Harold Pabst of St. Augustine, Fla.; a sister, Leona Jensen-Tritch of St. Augustine; and 14 grandchildren.

ANNIE LAURIE BOREN

Annie Laurie Boren died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Heritage House. She was 100.

Born in McBride in Jefferson County, Mrs. Boren had lived in Vicksburg since 1968. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church.

She was a teacher in the public schools for 41 years, having taught in Hinds County, Bishop, Texas, and Nipoma, Calif. She received a bachelor of science degree from State Teachers College, now the University of Southern Mississippi, and a master of science degree from A&I College in Kingsville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin Boren; her parents, Sidney and Lilian Perkins Sorrels; five sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include two sisters, Cathleen Harmon and Virginia Seawright of Vicksburg; one brother, Sidney E. Sorrels of Mechanicsville, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Ivey, pastor of Highland Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Cody Parker, John Spencer, Dan Tipton, Dwain Cotton, Don Houston and Bob White.

MARIE BAXTER HILL

Marie Baxter Hill died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. She was 75.

Mrs. Hill was a resident of Vicksburg and a retired employee of the Warren County Chancery Clerk’s Office. She was an independent certified handwriting analyst and held a master’s degree in graphoanalysis. She was a member of the Vicksburg Homemakers Club and of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Henry E. Hill of Vicksburg; two daughters, Peggy Mosley of Enterprise and Jamie Jeffers of Vicksburg; a stepson, Mike Hill of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home with Dr. Eric Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Hill, Joe Jeffers, Jerry Boland, Corey Jeffers, Chance Mosley and Michael Guin.

Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors and nurses at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center.

WILLIE J. HORTON

Willie J. “Puby” Horton died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 47.

Mr. Horton attended Mississippi Valley State University and was a member of Jackson Street M.B. Church. He had worked at Lee’s Plastics in Los Angeles and was employed at Wal-Mart SuperCenter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Sr. and Mattie Havard Horton, and a brother, Curtis Horton Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Whitley of Jackson and Nicole Horton of Clarksdale; three brothers, James Horton of Los Angeles, Wallace Horton of Jackson and Calvin Horton of Vicksburg; two sisters, Essie Brown of Vicksburg and Thelma Carter of Pontiac, Mich.; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church with the Rev. Ronnie Crudup officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
