JOHNNIE ELLEN GREEN BLAZIER

Johnnie Ellen Green Blazier died Friday, June 28, 2002. She was 84.

Mrs. Blazier was born in West Monroe, La., and lived in Vicksburg. She was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Calvin Blazier; and four children, Henry Calvin Blazier Jr., Johnny Eugene Blazier, Robert David Blazier and Stephen Earl Blazier.

She is survived by one son, Jerry Lee Blazier; two daughters-in-law, Sylvia Blazier and Ruth Blazier; a brother, Jack Green; a sister, Lena Van Etten; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe with the Rev. J.P. Mobley officiating. Burial will follow at the Community of Christ Church in Eros, La.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Jason Blazier, David Blazier, Alan Broussard, David Mobley, Chris Fielder and Billy Fuller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Green and David Fielder.

ROBERT A. EVANS SR.

A Mass of the Resurrection for Robert A. “Bobby” Evans Sr. will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the church. Wake will be at 6:30.

Mr. Evans died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at his home. He was 70.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Evans was the son of the late Robert Frederick and Evelyn Miller Evans Sr. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius High School. He attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He retired as owner of Mississippi Lumber Company, which was established in 1881 and continues as a family business.

He was past director of the Mississippi Building Materials Dealers Association, a former member of the Vicksburg-Warren Home Builders Association; a former committee member of Boy Scout Troop 7; a member of former Mayor Joe Loviza’s City Advisory Committee; and a member of the advisory committee of the River Region Home Corporation.

He was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Korean War, and received the Army Commendation Medal.

Mr. Evans was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and was a daily communicant and a Eucharistic minister. He was a former member of the parish council, the Diocesan School Board and the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Riddle Evans; two children, Heather Evans and Charles Joseph “Joe” Evans; two sisters, Madeline E. Franco and Evelyn E. Mouton; and four brothers, Robert F. Evans Jr., John W. Evans, Miller Evans and Harry L. Evans.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jabour Evans; three daughters, Therese Evans Winschel of Vicksburg, Shawn Evans Prince of Tupelo and Angie Jabour Hembree of Gluckstadt; seven sons, Robert A. Evans Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Gregory M. Evans, John Thomas “Jay” Evans, Jamie Jabour and David Jabour, all of Vicksburg, Paul Jabour of Utica and Jody M. Jabour of Houston, Texas; his sister, Mary Barber of Baton Rouge; four brothers, Dr. Ed Evans of Tallulah, Brother Carl Evans S.C. of Houma, La., Earl F. Evans of Houston, George Q. Evans of Jackson; 23 grandchildren; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Scott Elliott, David Prichett, Fred Farrell, Vince Little, Chad Sonnek, George Barber, Peter Mims and Bobby Middleton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Riles, Glynn Evans, Robert F. Evans III, Louis Theobald, Bernard Theobald, John Byram, Lucius Dabney, Ken Hicks, Carlton Rone, Billy Riddle, Joe Canizaro, Patrick Heraghty, John Hennessey, the Rev. H.D. Dennis, Dr. Russell Barnes, Dr. Murray Whitaker, Dr. Dan Dare, employees of Mississippi Lumber Company, members of the Knights of Columbus Council 898 and members of the BPOE No. 95.

Memorials may be made to the St. Aloysius-St. Francis building fund, 1900 Grove St., Vicksburg, MS. 39183.

CHRISTINE VARNADO JABOUR

Christine Varnado Jabour died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 91.

Mrs. Jabour was born in Pleasant Hill and moved to Vicksburg in 1936. She and her husband, the late George Jabour, owned and operated a men’s clothing store, The Toggery, and after her husband’s death she was a real estate agent for Johnny Jabour Realtors.

She was a member of the Women of St. George, Cedars Ladies Club and Floral Garden Club.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her son, George H. Jabour, Jr.; a sister, Pauline Goza, of Durango, Colo.; two grandsons, George “Jay” Jabour III and John Michael Jabour; and one great-grandson, John Michael Jabour Jr.

Services will be Monday with Trisagion prayers at 1:30 p.m. at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at St. George Orthodox Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Trisagion prayers at 5 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephews Kaleel Jabour, Philip Jabour, Wayne Smith and Vaughn Varnado.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews Freddy Abraham, George Ronald Abraham, J.D. Barksdale, Sammie Butler, John Wayne Jabour, Karl “Jay” Jabour Jr., Ned Jabour, Farron Smith, Roger Dale Smith, George Preston Thomas, John Nay Thomas, Dr. George Abraham and Richard Lane.

GLADYS GIBSON

Gladys Gibson died Saturday, July 29, 2002, at Hospice Services in Richland. She was 86.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Kentwood, La., graduated from Kentwood High School and lived in Vicksburg for 69 years. She served as director of nurses at Kuhn Memorial Hospital and at Vicksburg Hospital, from which she retired.

She was a member of the Deborah Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. Gibson.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Tammy Case of Peach Tree, Ga., and Tony Gibson of Woodville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Rex Brown, Arthur Lagg, Bryan Lagg, Gerry Bragg, David Upchurch and Raymond Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jimmy Vessell, Sam Lusco, David Lee Gibson, Dr. Daniel Edney, Dr. Murray Whitaker and Jeff Holland.
