L. SLEDGE ALLEN
INDIANOLA L. Sledge Allen died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was 85.
Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Indianola. He was a graduate of Indianola High School and Mississippi State University. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps as a first lieutenant in Japan. He was the owner of Indianola Furniture Company. He was a member of Indianola Country Club, Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Fernandez Allen of Indianola; two daughters, Tricia Allen of Dallas, Texas, and Katherine Allen Hilderbrand of Vicksburg; two sons, Clayton S. Allen of Oxford and James Wyatt Pullen of Dallas; his sister, Jean Allen Young of Oxford; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Burial will follow at Indianola City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Card Funeral Home in Indianola.
DEWEY HARPOLE COOPER SR.
GLEN ALLAN Dewey Harpole Cooper Sr. died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home in Glen Allan. He was 61.
Mr. Cooper was a native of Washington County and was a lifelong resident of Glen Allan. He attended school in Chatman.
He was preceded in death by his father, C.S. “Boots” Cooper.
Survivors include three sons, Dewey Cooper Jr., Danny Lee Cooper and Michael D. Cooper, all of Glen Allan; his mother, Kate Cooper of Glen Allan; two brothers, Jim Cooper and Bill Cooper, both of Glen Allan; his sister, Jane Cooper of Glen Allan; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow at County Line Cemetery in Glen Allan.
Visitation will be from noon Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.
ROBERT LEE GRAY JR.
Services for Robert Lee Gray Jr. will be at noon Thursday at New Mount Elem M.B. Church with the Rev. Leonard Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson and from 10:30 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.
Mr. Gray died Friday May 10, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 72.
He was a resident of Tuskegee, Ala., before moving to Vicksburg in 1953. He was the owner of Robert Gray and Sons Contracting.
He was preceded in death by his aunt, Hattie Williams Pitts.
He is survived by his wife, Mary “Ma-Emma” Burns Gray of Vicksburg; his mother, Rainey Jones of Tuskegee; three sons, Robin Gray of Vicksburg, Marvin Gray of Arizona and Larry Gray of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Tangie Amos Neal of Baton Rouge and Bobbett Gray of Pensacola; eight stepchildren, Abby Burnes Webley of Brandon, Toya Ford of Jackson, Thelma Burns Dennis and Velma Burns Pilate, both of Houston, Texas, Marino Gray of Las Vegas, Eddie Burns of Marietta, Ga., Charles Burns of New Orleans and Sam Burns Jr. of Baton Rouge; his sister, Willie Mae Mitchell of Virginia; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Booker T. Pitts of Alabama.
MICHAEL DEWAYNE WALKER
Michael Dewayne Walker died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. He was 26.
Mr. Walker lived most of his life in New Orleans and has lived in Vicksburg for the last five years. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by two uncles, Freddie Walker and Clarence Walker Jr.; and two cousins, Willie Walker Jr. and Kendrick Hooker.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Walker of Vicksburg; his father, James Washington of Vicksburg; his brother, James Earl Walker of Vicksburg; his sister, Mannisha Washington of Vicksburg; his maternal grandparents, Nancy Walker and Clarence Walker Sr. of Vicksburg; his paternal grandparents, Katie Mae Robinson and Andrew Robinson of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including Willie Walker Sr., Billie Walker, Carl Walker, Wayne Walker, David Walker, Flora Hooker, Barbara Walker, Melissa Neal, Frankie Neal and Clara Walker, all of Vicksburg, and Bernadine Burden and Pamela Walker, both of Chicago.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
VIRGIL J. WOLF
TRANSYLVANIA Virgil J. Wolf died Monday May 13, 2002, at Olive Branch Nursing Center in Tallulah. He was 86.
Mr. Wolf retired from Rosela’s Appliance in Greenville after 31 years of service, he was also a retired farmer. He was a charter member of the Moose Lodge in Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wolf; a daughter, Mildred Louise Wolf; three brothers, Marvin Wolf, Charles Wolf and Calvin Wolf; and a sister, Juney Wolf Wahlstrom.
He is survived by three sons, Jesse Wolf of Paris, Tenn., Robert “Bob” Wolf of Tallulah and Jerry Wolf of Transylvania; his daughter, Mary Myers of West Monroe; three brothers, George “Buddy” Wolf of Slaughter, La., Franklin Wolf of Vicksburg and Vernon Wolf of Crowville, La.; two sisters, Anna Mae Wolf Pennington of Ruston, La., and Katherine Wolf Whitlock of Jonesboro, La.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi with James Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Gardens in Lake Providence.
Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: David Myers, Jay Myers, Johnny Wolf, Ricky Wolf, Brad Wolf and Jerry Wayne Wolf Jr.
