MARY NELL LENOIR CATCHINGS

HAZLEHURST Mary Nell Lenoir Catchings died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at University Medical Center. She was 55.

Mrs. Catchings was preceded in death by two children, Edward Don Mazie and Tyrone Mazie; and five brothers, Thomas Lenoir, R.J. Lenoir, J.C. Lenoir, Joe Lenoir and Ellis Lenoir.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Lenoir of Hazlehurst and Homer Lenoir of Vicksburg; two daughters, Betty Curry and Gwendolyn Mazie, both of Vicksburg; six brothers, J.W. Lenoir, Eugene Lenoir and Eli Lenoir all of Michigan City, Ind., Walter Ray Lenoir of Jackson, Alvin Lenoir of Clinton and Robert Lenoir of Hazlehurst; three sisters, Carrie Mabry of Jackson, Brenda Sue Singleton of Bakersfield, Calif. and Minnie Ruth Fair of Baton Rouge; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Cook Funeral Home of Hazlehurst has charge of the arrangements.

ROSIE DELORES MARSH

OAKLAND, Calif. Services for Rosie Delores Marsh, a former resident of Vicksburg, will be at 4 p.m. today at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Marsh died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at her home in Oakland, Calif. She was 55.

Mrs. Marsh was a member of Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Marsh; her father, Isaac Randle; her mother, Mary Williams Randle; a brother, John A. Jackson; her stepbrother, Leroy Kimble; and her maternal grandparents, Ed Williams and Emma Williams.

She is survived by her son, Derrick Marsh of Vicksburg; her daughter, Pamela Marsh of Oakland; three brothers, Steve Randle and Lawrence Randle, both of Vicksburg, and James E. Jackson of Chicago; five sisters, Marie Phelps and Mary Wilson, both of Vicksburg, Tillie Doris of Shorewood, Ill., Dorothy Randle of Champaign, Ill. and Mavies Randle of Dime Box, Ill; and other relatives, including Walter Johnson, Emma Williams and Gracie Walker, both of Vicksburg, and Idelia Williams and Bennie Williams, both of Chicago.

LEON MOODY SR.

CANTON Leon Moody Sr. died Monday, July 15, 2002, at G.V. Sonny Montgomery Veteran Medical Center. He was 71.

Born in Bovina, Mr. Moody was a member of the Lutheran Church. He attended the Warren County public school system.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Ruth Moody; his parents, Humphrey “Son” Moody and Ruby Smith Moody; one sister, Louise Moody; and three brothers, Rufus Moody, Alonzo Moody and Berdon Moody.

Survivors include two sons, Leon Moody Jr. of Canton and Gregory Moody of Memphis; three daughters, Dorothy Knight of Hinesville, Ga., Rita F. Moody of Forest and Linda K. Moody of Jackson; four brothers, John W. Moody of Cleveland, Ohio, Judge Moody of Memphis, John T. Moody of Redwood and Reuben J. Moody of Canton; five sisters, Lula Burks of Edwards, Mary B. Sutton, Laura B. Moody, Nettie D. Doss, all of Canton, and Ruth Birdsong of Nashville; nine grandchildren; and other relatives.

Peoples Chapel of Canton has charge of the arrangements.

ELBERT THOMPSON.

FAYETTE Elbert Thompson died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Claiborne County Hospital. He was 58.

Born in Jefferson County, Mr. Thompson was a member of Rose Hill No. 2 Baptist Church where he was an usher and participated with the Prince Hall Lodge No. 202 of Jefferson County. He attended Liddell High School. He began working for Westinghouse/Cooper Lighting in 1966. He was a member of Cooper IBEW Local 1873.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Robert Thompson Sr. and Minerva Lewis Thompson; and two brothers, James Herrington and Charlie Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Thompson of Fayette; his son, Elbert “Hook” Thompson of Fayette; his daughter, Katrina Shaw of Frisco, Texas; three brothers, Lewis Thompson and Larry Thompson, both of Fayette, and Robert Thompson Jr. of Prince George, Va.; four sisters, Rosie L. George Turner, Matie Wicks, Mary L. Payne and Catherine Williams, all of Fayette; two grandchildren, Alexis Thompson of Fayette and Austin Shaw of Frisco; and other relatives.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill No. 2 Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from noon Sunday until the service at the the church.

Pallbearers will be friends and co-workers of Cooper Lighting.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lewis Thompson, Robert Thompson, K. Larry Thompson, Dallas Wicks, Noah Payne, John A. Ware, Donail Ware, Eric Michael Shaw, Kevin Savoie, Rayford Williams Sr. and Rayford Williams Jr.

ELNORA WRIGHT FRIAR

Services for Elnora Wright Friar will be at 11 a.m. today at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Frances Vriesen officiating. Burial will follow at Redbone Cemetery.

Mrs. Friar died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 88.

A native and lifelong resident of Warren County, Mrs. Friar was the daughter of the late Charley and Donnie Beard Wright. She was a member of Wayside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Friar.

Survivors include her daughter, Willie Lee Friar Brent of Vicksburg; her son, Lonnie Friar of Vicksburg; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Steve Muirhead, James Muirhead, Richard Kethley, Robert Brewer, Roger Bryant and Frank Segree.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Brent Kethley, Claude Brent Sr., Claude Brent Jr., Bennie Scott and Dr. J. Russell Barnes and staff.
