JOHN ELLIS DAVENPORT

PORT GIBSON John Ellis Davenport died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center in Greenville. He was 27.

Mr. Davenport was preceded in death by a son, John Ellis Davenport, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Kelly Davenport of Vicksburg; his mother and stepfather, Mozell Davenport-Guy and Herman Guy Sr. of Hermanville; his father, John Obie of Hermanville; five brothers, Herman Guy Jr. and Jameous Obie, both of Hermanville, Meka Truitt and Shawn Truitt, both of Port Gibson, and Terrance Truitt of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters, Linda Truitt of Port Gibson and Brenda Truitt- Hopkins of Vicksburg; his paternal grandmother, Lillie Obie of Hermanville; his maternal grandfather, Jurious Davenport of Chicago; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Port Gibson High School gymnasium with the Rev. Germaine Brown officiating. Burial will follow at St. Luke Cemetery in Jones Village under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

HERBERT HAYNES

Services for Herbert Haynes will be at noon Wednesday at Williams Funeral Service with the Rev. Joseph Briscoe officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Haynes died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 72.

Mr. Haynes served in the Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was formerly employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mat Sinking Unit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Haynes Sr. and Wilmouth Haynes; and four brothers, Tommy Haynes Jr., Alfred Haynes, Issiah Haynes and Benjamin Haynes.

Survivors include a daughter, Herscine Brown of Vicksburg; three brothers, Jack Haynes and Samuel Haynes, both of Flint, Mich., and Jessie Smith of Vicksburg; three sisters, Virginia Johnson, Wilmouth Haynes and Louise Harris, all of Detroit; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

MARK DETRICK LACEY

Mark Detrick Lacey died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 14.

A student at Vicksburg Junior High School, he was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his mother, Yolanda Lacey of Vicksburg; his maternal grandparents, Isiah and Dorothy Brewer of Vicksburg; two uncles, Isiah Brewer Jr. and Keith Brewer, both of Vicksburg; an aunt, Renee Maxey of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Brooks, Lacey, Parnell, Slater and Slaughter families.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

CHARLOTTE MURRAY PACE

BATON ROUGE Charlotte Murray Pace died Friday, May 31, 2002, at her home in Baton Rouge. She was 22.

A native of Jackson, Miss Pace was a student at Louisiana State University. She graduated from Millsaps College in May 2000, where she was named to the Dean’s List and was inducted into Beta Alpha Psi honorary accounting fraternity. She participated in the Millsaps International Business Program studying in London, Paris, Munich and Prague. She was a varsity athlete and served as co-captain of the Millsaps women’s soccer team during her junior and senior years. She was a member of the Millsaps Athletic Advisory Committee. She served for two years on the Millsaps Student Senate and served as a perspectives leader during her senior year. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and served as alumni relations chair and rush co-chairman.

She participated in philanthropic activities, including mentorship of inner-city children, Mississippi Baptist Medical Center children’s unit volunteer, Habitat for Humanity, Community Stewpot and annual fundraising activities to benefit victims of child abuse.

She is survived by her mother, Ann Pace of Jackson; her father, Casey Pace of Pearl; a brother, John Pace of Jackson; her maternal grandmother, Bebe Rodgers of Rolling Fork; and a sister, Sam Pace of Port Aransas, Texas.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Rolling Fork Methodist Church under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

NETTIE TOLLIVER

Nettie Tolliver died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 87.

Mrs. Tolliver was a member of Green Grove M.B. Church in Shaw. where she a mother of the church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Tolliver; her parents, Carrie Scoot and Edward Wilson; her stepfather, David Scott; a sister, Daisy Arrington; and a stepsister, Mattie Howard.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. Leroy Wilson and Johnny Tolliver, both of Vicksburg; and two daughters, Catherine Washington of Vicksburg and Beatrice Lee of Shaw; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
