WAVERLEY CONWAY

Waverley Conway died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at his home, “Sarata.” He was 83.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was the son of Waverley and Ruth Swett Conway. He was a retired employee of Sears and a 50-year member of the Amateur Radio Club with the call letters W5FPE.

Mr. Conway was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a sportsman and lifelong member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Skaggs Conway, and a son, Waverley Conway III.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Duncan of Vicksburg and Emily Bayley of Atlanta; and four grandsons, Christopher Chadwick Duncan, Daniel Bayley and Andrew Bayley, all of Atlanta, and Waverley Conway Duncan of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crawford Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the service in Wesley Hall at the church.

DORIS E. DAVIS

Doris E. Davis died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 80.

A homemaker, Mrs. Davis was born in Holmes County and had lived in Vicksburg since 1954. She was a member of Solid Rock United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl J. Davis; and a daughter, Barbara Jean Jackson; two sisters, Jessie Mae Eubanks and Ada Lorraine Hasty; her brother, Frank Ward; two grandsons, Darryl Leslie Jackson and Glenn Dewayne Jackson; two great-granddaughters, Michelle Lee Muirhead and Leslie Nicole Vines; and a great-great-granddaughter, Angel Lynn Bost.

She is survived by her son, Carl Frank Davis of Yazoo City; two daughters, Ruby Worthy of Vicksburg and Elizabeth Hester of Crandall, Texas; two brothers, Charles Robert Ward of Yazoo City and Thomas Edward Ward of Vicksburg; four sisters, Larue Buckley of Madison and Peggy Sanders, Annette Bishop and Shirley Burns, all of Jackson; 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Talbert officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Harvey Hasty, Louis Hasty, Harvey Daniel Hasty Jr., Troy Inman Hasty, David O’Neal Robert Jr., Kelsey Roberts, Terry Mack Jackson and Gary Brian Jackson.

OLIVER THORNTON JACOBS

TALLULAH Oliver Thornton Jacobs died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at his home in Tallulah. He was 91.

Born in Bell City, Mo., Mr. Jacobs had lived in Tallulah for 23 years. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ora Eva Callow Jacobs of Tallulah; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ernest Williams Jr., Raymond Stanfield, Curt Faulconer, Michael Williamson and Adam Jacobs.

WILLIAM M. JAMIESON

FULTON William M. “Bill” Jamieson died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at his home. He was 83.

Born in Tippah County, Mr. Jamieson was a 1940 graduate of Mississippi State University. He farmed and raised cattle most of his life. He owned and operated Dixie Theatre and 25 Drive-In in Fulton for several years and was involved in real estate. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Fulton United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Pratt Jamieson; his parents, Thomas M. and Willie Mae Horton Jamieson; and a brother, Leroy Jamieson.

He is survived by his son, William M. Jamieson Jr. of Fulton; his daughter, Beth Norman of Vicksburg; three sisters, Ruth Shaw of Walnut, Helen McMillen of Faulkner and Lucy Boykin of Rolling Fork; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives, including Kathie Jamieson of Fulton, Dean Norman of Vicksburg and Linda Williams and Patsy West.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Stokes and Dr. Roy D. McAlilly officiating. Burial will follow at Itawamba Memorial Gardens under the direction of McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

DAVID O. LEWIS

UTICA David O. Lewis died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 49.

Mr. Lewis was born in Philadelphia and had lived in Utica most of his life. He was employed with Reedtown Water Association. He was a member of Utica United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary F. Lewis of Utica; two daughters, Stacy Jean Bryan of Philadelphia and Tatum O’Neal Hester of Utica; his stepson, Samuel Todd Pittman of Jackson; his mother and stepfather, Annie Opal and Robert E. Mobley of Utica; his brother, Robert E. Mobley Jr. of Pearl; his sisters, Brenda Kirkland of Palm Bay, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Utica United Methodist Church with the Revs. Rob Hill and Sue Michaels officiating. Burial will follow at Mobley Cemetery in Utica.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.
