EULAH MAE ARMSTRONG

PINE BLUFF, Ark. Eulah Mae Armstrong died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital in McGehee, Ark. She was 65.

Mrs. Armstrong was a self-employed nurse’s aide. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Leona Harris Newton; and her father, George Bland.

She is survived by her son, Theodis Jefferson Jr. of Kansas City, Kan.; four daughters, Glendora Mangrum of Marietta, Ga., Theater Jefferson, Sharon Jefferson and Charnetta Hicks, all of Kansas City; three brothers, Lawrence Newton, Napolean Newton and Leroy Newton, all of Vicksburg; three sisters, Vera Dixon, Charlie Jean Newton and Tommie “Toni” Ford, all of Vicksburg; a stepson, Theodis Jefferson of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Watkin Chapel Baptist Church in Pine Bluff with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Burial followed at New St. Hurricane Cemetery in Pine Bluff under the direction of Brown Funeral Home in Pine Bluff.

CHARLENE ELIZABETH COTTON

Charlene Elizabeth Cotton died Monday, May 27, 2002, as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Tallulah. She was 16.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was a student at Vicksburg High School and a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ercell Bell Whatley, and her grandfather, Edward F. Cotton.

Survivors include her parents, Charles E. and Emily Elizabeth Cotton of Vicksburg; three brothers, Ryan Laughlin of Phoenix, Ariz., John Clay of Port Arthur, Texas, and Zachary Cotton of Vicksburg; and her grandmother, Jane Cotton Hanes of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Lloyd, Travis Vance Jr., Joel Cheslek, Clay Townley, Daniel Renfroe, Daniel Scott, Mac Elmore and Starr Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hawkins United Methodist Church youth fellowship.

RONALD STEPHEN KELLY

JACKSON Ronald Stephen “Steve” Kelly died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson. He was 43.

Mr. Kelly was born in Natchez. He was retired from the 20th Special Forces Group of the Mississippi National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carl and Margaret Kelly; and his maternal grandfather, Armond E. Ford.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Kelly of Summit; his mother and stepfather, Grace and Louis “Matt” Dillon of Natchez; his father, Carl Kelly Jr. of Natchez; a sister, Tammy Wroten of Natchez; two stepbrothers, Keith Dillon and Kurt Dillon, both of Natchez; his maternal grandmother, Frances Ford of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home in Natchez with the Rev. Rusty Bowlin officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Natchez National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be the Military Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans Association of America or a favorite charity.

ALORA H. THOMAS

Alora H. Thomas died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of Rock of Ages M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isiah Thomas; her parents, Garfield and Eliza Henderson; and two sons and two sisters.

She is survived by her goddaughter, Leona Larkins Smith of Vicksburg, and other relatives, including Patricia Gayles of Newellton and Gertrude Reed of Vicksburg.
