LAURA BROWN ANDERSON

Services for Laura Brown Anderson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist Church, 718 Bowmar Ave., with the Rev. Booker T. Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anderson died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.

Born in Union Church, she was a former employee of Mercy Hospital. She owned and operated a day-care center in her home until 1991. She was past grand matron of the Esther Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star and most worthy grand matron of the Rose of Sharon Daughters of Sphinx. She was also a member of Israel Court No. 9 Heroines of Jericho. She was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church in Flowers community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Brown Sr. and Mary McNair Brown; her maternal grandparents, Lynch McNair and Lettie McNair; her paternal grandparents, George Brown and Dicy Branch Brown; five brothers, Henry Brown, Samuel Brown, Whitney Pearlie Brown, John Walter Brown and Claude Brown; two sisters, Annie Brown Ward and Lula Mae Brown Stampley; and his grandson, Kevin F. Smith Jr.

She is survived by 10 sons, Eugene Anderson Jr., James Anderson, Austin Anderson, Curtis Anderson, Melvin Anderson, Carl Anderson, Howard Anderson and David Anderson, all of Vicksburg, Larry Anderson of Aiken, S.C., and Archie Lacey of Santa Monica, Calif.; five daughters, Mary L. Anderson, Irma Lewis, Carrol Anderson and Lula Butler, all of Vicksburg, and Barbara Smith of Lithonia, Ga.; three brothers, Charlie Brown and Robert Clark, both of Vicksburg, and Jack Brown Jr. of Inglewood, Calif.; 60 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

FREDRICK HOWARD

EVANSTON, Ill. Fredrick Howard died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in Evanston, Ill. He was 58.

Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Josephine Howard; two sisters, Jose Lee Barber and Ruthy Kelly; and two brothers, William Gibson and James Howard.

Survivors include a son, Andrea Howard of Chicago; two brothers, Roosevelt Howard of Clarksdale and Jack Howard Jr. of Evanston; two sisters, Christine Howard of Port Gibson and Georgia Earthly of Chicago; and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Howard Family Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

SAVANNAH HUNTER

LEEDSVILLE, La. Services for Savannah Hunter will be at noon Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Bingham officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hunter died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Leedsville Nursing Center in Leedsville. She was 81.

She was a former Vicksburg resident.

She is survived by members of the White and Bingham families of Vicksburg.

ANNIE W. JACKSON

Services for Annie W. Jackson will be at noon Saturday at New Rock of Ages Church, 2944 Valley St., with Dr. Michael R. Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 91.

A homemaker, she was a member of New Rock of Ages Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Sr. and Clara Wells Williams; two brothers, the Rev. John Henry Williams and Frank Williams Jr.; and three sisters, Easter Sanders, Laura Mitchell and Lydia Littleton.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert R. Jackson of Vicksburg; a daughter, Claree Green of New London, Conn.; one brother, the Rev. Alfred Williams of Chicago; one sister, Emma Savage of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren, including Artelia Green Williams of Vicksburg; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

VICTOR JACOBS

Victor Jacobs died today, Aug. 15, 2002, at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 91.

Born in Middlesboro, Ky., Mr. Jacobs was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and had lived in Baton Rouge since 1996. He attended the University of Tennessee and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. He retired from the shoe business with more than 40 years of experience. He was past exalted ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks No. 95 and was a member of and past president of the Anshe Chesed Congregation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Celia Berry Jacobs; and two brothers.

He is survived by a daughter, Nita Jacobs Lepp of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Edward Lee of West Monroe, David Lepp of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Lois Lepp Park of Pensacola, Fla.; and one great-granddaughter, Kathryn Rachael Lepp of Murfreesboro.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Anshe Chesed Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
