[09/28/02]Wesley Purvis rushed for 151 yards, caught two passes for 60 yards and scored three touchdowns as Porters Chapel prepared for its showdown with Briarfield with a 27-10 thumping of Presbyterian Christian.

The Eagles (4-2, 1-0) will host the undefeated Rebels on Friday night in a key Conference 5-A matchup.

“It should be a wing-dinger,” PCA coach Bubba Mims said. “They’ve got a good team, but we’ll be ready for em.”

Purvis scored on runs of 59 and 1 yards and hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass just before halftime as the Eagles held a 14-3 lead at the break after falling behind 3-0.

Ryan Hoben caught a 43-yard touchdown pass from Gerald Mims in the third quarter and Purvis’ third touchdown in the fourth put the game away.

Mims was 8 for 16 for 163 yards and two scores and Hoben caught six passes for 103 yards.

The Eagles’ defense registered 11 tackles for loss and allowed only a late touchdown to Presbyterian, located in Hattiesburg.

“It was a long trip and we started out slow,” Bubba Mims said. “In the second quarter, we were able to get things going.”
