HARRISON R. GROSS
PARSONS, Kan. Harrison R. Gross died Monday, April 29, 2002, at his home in Parsons, Kan. He was 78.
Born in Port Gibson, Mr. Gross served in the Army from 1943 until 1946. In 1950, he moved to Parsons and worked for Katy Railroad for seven years. He was also employed at ParKan Ladder Company and Kansas Army Ammunition Plant. He retired from Ruskin Manufacturing company after 17 years of service. He was a member and senior deacon of Macedonia M.B. Church where he sang with the gospel quartet. He was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge in Coffeyville, Kan., and was past worshipful master.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Flood; a daughter, Bessie Mae Gross; a brother, Eddie Gross; and a sister, Johnnie Burks.
He is survived his wife, Maggie Gross of Parsons; four sons, Harold Gross of Winfield, Kan., Charles Gross of Parsons, Alonzo Jones of Port Gibson and Manuel Gross of Wichita, Kan.; three daughters, Faley Weathersby of Hattiesburg, Bertha Dodd of Wichita and Eva Gross of Parsons; four brothers, Harrison Allen Gross, George Gross, Charlie Gross and James “Bay” Gross; two sisters, Rosie Mae McKnight of Vicksburg and Charlie Ruth Robinson of Hammond, La.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ with the Revs. Edward Scott and Charles Gross and Harold Gross officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 until 8 tonight at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia M.B. Church building fund.
ELSIE MAE ELWOOD MARTIN
Elsie Mae Elwood Martin died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 81.
Born in Lucas County, Iowa, Mrs. Martin had lived in Vicksburg for the last 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Richard and Gladys Elwood; four brothers, George B. Elwood, Francis O. Elwood, James Roger Elwood and Douglas Eugene Elwood.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert “Hall” Martin of Vicksburg; two sons, Ronald James of Sioux City, Iowa and Leslie James of Indianola, Iowa; her daughter, Katherine Clevenger of Henderson, Texas; her stepson, E.L. “Sonny” Martin of Natchez; her stepdaughter, Helen Kathleen Hackler of Edwards; six sisters, Evelyn Galizignato of Valley Springs, Calif., Marlene Fullmer of Chariton, Iowa, Ilene Stanger and Ruby Kent, both of Des Moines, Iowa, Ruth Gillenwater of Phoenix, Ariz., and Pauline Broda of Lady Lake, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Cresswell officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
JONATHAN DEAN McKAY
HARRISVILLE Jonathan Dean “Johnny” McKay died Monday, April 29, 2002, at University Medical Center. He was 39.
Mr. McKay was born in Warren County. He was a member of Limestone Hunting Club, Iron Workers Local No. 469 and Harrisville Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Lorenza McKay; his father, Lenny McKay; and his grandmother, Annie Bell Vines.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Crawford McKay of Harrisville; three sons, Jonathan McKay Jr., Dylan Crawford McKay and Joel Chandler McKay, all of Harrisville; seven brothers, Mark McKay, Greg Pickering, Jerry Vines, Mike Pickering, Keith Pickering, Heath Pickering and Eric Pickering, all of Vicksburg; his grandfather, J.D. Vines of Vicksburg; and other relatives.
Services were at 10 a.m. today at Unity Baptist Church in Georgetown. Burial followed at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
