ALBERTA V. ANDERSON

Alberta V. Anderson died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at her home in Cary. She was 91.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her son, James Anderson Sr. of Los Angeles; her daughter, Hattie Knight of Cary; 10 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 50 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clark Chapel Church in Cary with Annie Travis officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

CHARLES ANDREW CARLSON

Charles Andrew Carlson died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.

Mr. Carlson was born and reared in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received his bachelor of science degree from Ohio State University. He pursued graduate studies at Cornell University and received his master of science degree from North Carolina State University. He served during World War II in the construction and administration of the Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant in Milan, Tenn. He and his family moved to Vicksburg in 1951 with the U.S. Forest Service. He transferred to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1953 and worked at Waterways Experiment Station in trafficability and environmental labs until his retirement in 1974.

He authored a number of papers and articles during his career. He was a member of the Soil Science Society of America and the Agronomy Society. He was a member of Redbone United Methodist Church for 48 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hjalmar Conrad Carlson; his mother, Carolina Andersdotter Carlson; and two sisters, Gertrude Carlson and Helen Heckman.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret Kallmeyer Carlson of Vicksburg; two sons, Mark Carlson of Athens, Texas, and Eric Carlson of Canon City, Colo.; three daughters, Sylvia Tucker of Irving, Texas, Gerda Leek of Ocean Springs and Sara Dionne of Vicksburg; his brother, William Carlson of Cincinnati; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redbone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Biedenharn officiating. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall.

WILLIAM JACK COLE

DELHI, La. William Jack Cole died Thursday, April 25, 2002, at his home in Delhi, La. He was 85.

Mr. Cole was born in Chillicothe, Texas. He was a retired area superintendent with United Pipeline Co. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in France and Germany. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Delhi.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 502 in Mineola, Texas; the Longview Commandery in Longview, Texas; and the Barak Shrine Temple in Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Gowan Cole, and his parents, James Oscar and Minnie Mae Cole.

Survivors include six nieces, five nephews and friends, including Rose Periou of Delhi and Lisa and Jeff Reddick of Tallulah.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mulhearn Memorial Park in Monroe with the Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Burial will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.

ANNER STRICKLAND EAST

Services for Anner Strickland East will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church with the Rev. Steven Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home .

Mrs. East died Friday, April 19, 2002, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 66.

A homemaker, Mrs. East was a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a son, Billy East Jr.; her parents, Joseph and Nancy Strickland Stelivan Sr.; and two brothers, Joseph Stelivan Jr. and Everet Stelivan.

She is survived by her husband, Billy East of Vicksburg; three sons, Arnold Ray East and James East, both of Vicksburg, and Rufus G. East of Detroit, Mich.; five daughters, Nancy S. Thomas, Viola Stewart, Gertrude Brown and Alberta E. Crockett, all of Vicksburg, and Ledora East of Jackson; two brothers, Willie Stelivan and Elbert Stelivan, both of Vicksburg; her sister, Alberta Anderson of Detroit; 23 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

CORINE REED

Services for Corine Reed will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mount Calvary M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Reed died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 95.

She was a member of Mount Calvary M.B. Church, where she was a member of the senior choir and served on other church auxiliaries.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Reed; three brothers, Edward Barnes, Arthur Barnes and G.P. Barnes.

She is survived by a niece, Barbara Duperon of New Orleans; and other relatives, including John and Lucille Smith and the Darden, Nailor, Harriet and Jackson families, all of Vicksburg.
