LEEDSVILLE, La. Savannah G. Hunter died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Leedsville Nursing Center in Leedsville, La. She was 81.

She was a former Vicksburg resident.

She is survived by members of the White and Bingham families of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

JOSEPH LANE JR.

Joseph Lane Jr. died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his home. He was 60.

Mr. Lane was a logger and a member of Pleasant Valley M.B. Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Metlowe.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Smith Lane of Vicksburg; his father, Joseph Lane Sr. of Mayersville; a stepson, Obie Cuff III of Vicksburg; three stepdaughters, Casandra Smith of Las Vegas and Sherah Smith and Tiffany Cuff, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary Ann Lane of California and Helen A. Lane of Greenville; a brother, Leroy Lane of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

BEATRICE LOGUE PATTERSON

Beatrice Logue “Bea” Patterson died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 95.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Patterson retired in the early 1980s as a certified public accountant.

Fisher Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JIMMY LEE SHORTER

Jimmy Lee Shorter died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 40.

Mr. Shorter was an employee of Anderson-Tully and a member of Wall Hill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rowena Moore; his grandmother; one sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Wilson Shorter of Vicksburg; his father, Cleveland Shorter of Lorman; three sons, Jordan Shorter and Jimmy Shorter Jr., both of Fayette, and Delveechio Trunell of Vicksburg; three daughters, Rosalyn Shorter of Vicksburg, Q’Tangela Shorter and Jamalika Shorter, both of Fayette; two brothers, Donald Shorter and Monroe Shorter, both of Pattison; five sisters, Bettye Bell and Barbara Payton, both of Natchez, Ella Smith of Lorman, Ethel Jackson of Hermanville and Edna Shorter of Harriston; and two grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at East Mount Olive Baptist Church in Red Lick with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Wall Hill Cemetery in Blue Hill.

Visitation will be until 6 p.m. today at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be Sherry Carroll, Jerry Carroll, Eddie Caroll, Odell Miller, Baroncellius Hedrick and Albert Moore.

Honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Smith Sr., Kenneth Smith Jr., Cleveland Shorter III, Gregory Smith, Nathaniel White, Tommy Wilson, Donald Shorter, Monroe Shorter and Henry Bell.

ELEASE HARVEY WILLIAMS

Elease Harvey Williams died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 76.

Mrs. Williams was a domestic worker and cook. She was a member of Mount Zion No. 1 Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy Harvey and Alice McFarland; her husband, Paul Williams Jr.; and one son, Monroe Hunt.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Earl Fortner of Jackson and DeFrancis Harvey of Vicksburg; two daughters, Mamie Doyle of Vicksburg and Alice Dampeer of Utica; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other relatives, including Climent McFarland of Chicago.

Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.

LUCILLE F. HERRING

TALLULAH Lucille F. Herring died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Madison Parish Hospital in Tallulah. She was 72.

Mrs. Herring was born in Lillie, La. She was a retired nurse and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two sons, Henry R. “Ray” Herring of Tallulah and William M. Herring of Hanalei, Hawaii; and one brother, Henry E. Flatt of Hawthorne, Nev.

Services will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating.
