ALBERT BROWN JR.

Albert “George” Brown Jr. died Friday, April 12, 2002, in Omaha, Neb. He was 66.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Brown was a resident of Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Brown Sr.; his mother, the Rev. Lucille Evangeline Evans Brown; and a brother, Herman Bruce “Porter” Brown.

He is survived by a daughter, Georgia Mae Brown of Arkansas; seven sisters, Rosa Pittman, Elizabeth Allen, Gloriastine Morrison and Tehira Ali, of Omaha, Wanda Clark, Clara Steele Jones and Alberta Ivy, of Vicksburg; three brothers, Joseph Watson Brown of Omaha, Richard Clark and Robert Clark, of Vicksburg; and other relatives, including J.D. Evans of Omaha, Clara Beverette Atkins of Vicksburg and the Franklin and Brown families of Bovina.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home in Omaha with the Rev. Tyrus Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.

MARIE SMITHHART JONES

Marie Smithhart Jones died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.

Born in Indianola, Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and employed as a nurse’s aid for Vicksburg Convalescent Home for 15 years. She was a member of Sonrise Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben F. Jones; three brothers, Robert Smithhart, Issac Smithhart and Bennett Smithhart.; and two grandchildren, Melissa Snow and Bennie Henderson.

She is survived by three sons, Ben G. Jones, James G. Jones, both of Vicksburg, and Travis L. Jones of Memphis; seven daughters, Helen Davis, Carol Hughes, Diane Dent and Brenda Jones, all of Vicksburg, Shirley Womble of Eupora, Laura Jones of Clinton and Martha Robinson of Edwards; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Mizelle officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Alton Jones, Cary Womble, Ricky Womble, Randell Brown, Todd McDonald and Glen Jones.

ROOSEVELT NICHOLS

FAYETTE Roosevelt Nichols died Monday, April 15, 2002, at South Central Regional Hospital in Laurel. He was 44.

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jessie “Teddy” Nichols.

He is survived by his parents, Roosevelt Malone and Theresa Malone, both of Fayette; nine sisters, Mary E. Malone, Thelma Malone, Crystal Malone and Laveda Malone, all of Fayette, Charlene Washington and Georgia Jones, both of Meadville, Christine Washington and Mary Jenkins, both of Vicksburg and Martha Malone of Detroit; three brothers, Ronnie Malone, Norris Malone and Morris Malone, all of Fayette; his grandmother, Etta Nichols of Fayette; and other relatives.

Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette has charge of the arrangements.

MARY E. BROWN REDDICK

JACKSON Mary E. Brown Reddick died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 74.

Mrs. Reddick was born in Claiborne County and attended the Claiborne County Public Schools. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church in Port Gibson before moving to Jackson, where she attended Young’s Chapel C.M.E. Church and was later a member of New Testament M.B. Church.

She was a member of M.W. King Hiram Grand Lodge A.F.&A.M. and Electra Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 119.

Mrs. Reddick was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Heck Brown and Lureaner Carter Brown; two children, Willie Ruth Reddick and Rogia L. Reddick; two brothers, Freddie Brown and Eddie Brown; and two sisters, Idella Crowner and Thelma Brown.

She is survived by her husband, Rufus Reddick; six daughters, Cordelia Davis, Georgia Macklin, Lillie Davis, Mildred Branson, Laura M. Reddick and Jessie M. Reddick, of Jackson; two sons, Robert Reddick Sr. and Willis Reddick Sr., of Jackson; an adopted son, Marcus Reddick of Jackson; one brother, Charles Crowner of Columbus, Ga.; three sisters, Ruby Parker of Port Gibson, Martha Buie of Hattiesburg and Alfreda Burns of Vicksburg; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.

Services were Saturday at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.

TOMMIE LEE SIMS

Tommie Lee Sims died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Rush Memorial Hospital in Meridian. He was 80.

Mr. Sims was employed with the Land O’ Lakes Butter Co. A veteran of World War II, he was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Sims; four brothers, Albert Sims, Robert Sims Jr., Fred Sims and Allen Sims; two sisters, Pinkye Harris and Lena Pampley; and his parents, Robert and Sallie Howard Sims.

Survivors include three sons, Anthony Sims and Benson Sims, of Chicago, and Lamar Sims of Washington; four daughters, Barbara Jean Sims and Judy Faye Sims, of Chicago, Thomasine Sims of Washington and Debra Davis of Rochester, N.Y.; two brothers, Eddie Sims and Johnnie Sims, of Vicksburg; three sisters, Emma Hebron and Bertha Burse, of Vicksburg, and Rosie Thomas of Chicago; and grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

VERMA VIRGINIA WARD

MERIDIAN Verma Virginia Ward died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice in Meridian. She was 80.

Mrs. Ward retired as a secretary for the State of Mississippi. She was a member of State Boulevard Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a brother, G.W. Attaway; her parents, George and Nancy Adelle Attaway; and a grandchild, Christopher Knight.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Ward of Meridian; three daughters, Pat Sudduth of Madison, Deborah Price of Meridian and Sheila Hudspeth of Vicksburg; a sister, Audrey Garcia of Conway, S.C.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Parker officiating. Burial followed under the direction of Barham Funeral Home of Meridian.

Memorials may be made to Heartfelt Hospice or to a favorite charity.

DORIS DELORIS WILLIAMS

SATARTIA Doris Deloris “Shane” Williams died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. She was 34.

Miss Williams was a choir member of Elbethel M.B. Church.

She is survived by her mother, Willie Lee Williams of Satartia; her stepfather, Johnnie Anderson of Satartia; her sister, Annie Lee Armstead of Batesville; two brothers, Leroy Williams Jr. of Satartia and Vernon Pampley of Cleveland, Ohio; and other relatives and friends, including Robert Richardson and LaKendle Cage, of Yazoo City.

Services will be Saturday at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church in Satartia with the Rev. Henry Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church Cemetery under the direction of Shaiffer and Collins Funeral Home in Yazoo City.
