[06/26/02]Residents along three roads in north Warren County will have a smoother ride as a result of a contract awarded Tuesday morning.
Resealing portions of Ballground, Eagle Lake Shore and Oak Ridge roads will result from a vote of the Warren County Board of Supervisors.
The county received bids from APAC- Mississippi of Vicksburg, Dickinson & Bowen Inc. of Brookhaven and T.L. Wallace Construction Co. Inc. of Columbia. When the bids were opened and read, Wallace was the apparent low bidder at $443,584.18.
The reseal project will be done with funding help from the State Aid Road Division of the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
Eagle Lake Shore Road will be resealed from Mississippi 465 to the end of the pavement. Ballground Road will be resealed from Mississippi 3 to the end of the pavement. Oak Ridge Road will be resealed from Ballground to Tucker Road. The total will be about 14 miles.
In other business, the board:
Voted to allow the Warren County Sheriff’s Department to apply for a federal 2002 Local Law Enforcement Grant.
The county will seek $50,390 and will have to match it with $5,599 in local money.
When Undersheriff Jeff Riggs presented the proposal, he also asked that the local share be deposited in a department account.
Agreed to write letters to the contractor and the Mississippi Department of Transportation about a dip that developed over a new box culvert on Redwood Road.
County Engineer McKee said the county will install signs warning of the dip and lowering the speed limit until the county can meet with the contractor to discuss overlaying the area to remove the dip. The area will also be monitored to see if additional work is needed.
