Jesse John Bailey Hayes died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.

A Vicksburg native, Mr. Hayes was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hayes. He graduated from Magnolia Avenue High School and served in the Army.

He joined King Solomon M.B. Church, where he was a deacon, a senior choir member and served as assistant superintendent of the Sunday school. He worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for more than 38 years and was guitarist for the Red Tops band for more than 30 years.

Mr. Hayes was a member of the American Legion Tyner-Ford Post No. 213 for more than 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernest Hayes, Frank Hayes and Wilbert T. Hayes Sr., and five sisters, Alma H. Garner, Arvel H. Flagg, Alberta H. Regan, Lula H. Williams and Margaret Foster Tillman.

He is survived by his wife, Henriene Williams Hayes; two daughters, Ellaine Rene James and Jessica Ruth Williams, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Eva H. Milton of Rolla, Mo.; two grandsons, Frank “Trey” James III and Jared Edmund Williams; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel.

Pallbearers will be George E. Smith, Willie Deyamport, Roscoe Younger Jr., Barney Wilson, Sullivan Caldwell, David Williams, Charles Selmon, Richard Clark, Morris Johnson and Michael Dennis Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred D. Shields, Dorwin T. Shields, Mikhail Abdulbaaqee, F.J. Braboy, Louis Spencer, Jimmy Bosley, Willie Betts Sr., Dr. Kenneth B. Carter Sr., Robert D. Shields, Clarence Knox Jr., Robert J. Vaughn, Willard Tyler, Simon Jefferson, Fred Griffin and comrades of American Legion Tyner-Ford Post No. 213.

LOUISE HERNTON

CARY Louise Hernton died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was 75.

Ms. Hernton lived in Cary.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Collins of Cary; a son, Andrew Hernton Jr. of Glen Allan; a brother, Alford Moody of Vicksburg; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Guiding Star M.B. Church in Cary with the Rev. Carl Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Friday at Redmon Funeral Home Chapel in Greenville and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.

MABEL PEAVY SHACKELFORD

ROLLING FORK Mabel Peavy Shackelford died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 99.

Born in Roseland, La., Mrs. Shackelford lived most of her life in Plaquemine, La., and had been a Rolling Fork resident since 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rolling Fork.

She is survived by three sons, Albert “Jay” Tircuit of Marysville, Calif., Curtis Tircuit of Rolling Fork and Matt A. Tircuit of Jarreau, La.; one brother, Charles E. Peavy of Livingston, La.; one sister, Pearl L. Hendrick of Baton Rouge; and nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Revs. Reese Kyzar and Millard Caulder officiating. Burial will be at Grace Memorial Park in Plaquemine.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.
