John Allen

PORT GIBSON John Allen died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 98.

Mr. Allen was a resident of Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlena Allen; a son, David Allen; his parents, Tommy and Gertrude Allen; five brothers, Turner Allen, Pearlie Allen, Ferd Allen, Robert Allen and Will Allen; and five sisters, Mary Allen, Estella Lehmann, Carrie Williams, Lettie Sampson and Lillian Allen.

Survivors include a son, Archa Taylor of Seaside, Calif.; four daughters, Eva Mae Blair of Chicago, Johnie M. Knight and Gladys R. Williams, both of Port Gibson, and Lettie R. Floyd of Milwaukee, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Polly Hammond

CARY Polly Hammond died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at Sharkey-Issaquena Hospital in Rolling Fork. She was 93.

Born in Seneca, S.C., Mrs. Hammond had been a resident of Cary since 1953. She had worked at Sunshine Cleaners in Rolling Fork for 33 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rolling Fork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie “Bill” Hammond.

Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Rainey of Anderson, S.C.; and a niece, Jane Faw of Conover, N.C.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Johnny Sanders officiating. Burial will follow at Cary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Martha C. Johnson

Services for Martha C. Johnson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Word of Faith Christian Center with Reginald L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the church.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis H. Johnson Sr.; a son, Dennis H. Johnson Jr.; and her parents, Monroe and Jeanette Clark Reese.

Survivors include a son, Robert Earl “Bobby” Johnson of Vicksburg; three daughters, Jeanetta J. McCoy, Clara J. James and Malinda A. Johnson, all of Vicksburg; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Kovac Jr.

OAK GROVE John Kovac Jr. died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. He was 87.

Born in Lansing, Mich., Mr. Kovac was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Emily Stimac Kovac.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Elizabeth Kovac of Oak Grove; two daughters, Betty Philley of Dallas and Janice Neal of Shreveport, La.; two sons, Bobby R. Kovac of Oak Grove and Jimmy Lavell Kovac of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Joe Kovac of Cleveland, Ohio, and Frank Kovac of Woodward, Okla.; three sisters, Lilly Ainsworth and Josephine O’Neal, both of Oak Grove, and Mary Locknar of Russellville, Ark.; and 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kilbourne First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bernard Duchesne officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation is until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Marcus Robinson, Kevin Ray Kovac, Douglas Ainsworth, John Thomas Philley, H.G. Wactor and B.C. Haley.

Aroy Excelle Redditt

Services for Aroy Excelle “Roy” Redditt will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Redditt died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his home. He was 55.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Redditt was a 1967 graduate of Warren Central High School. He graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy and served as chief of the uniformed patrol division after being associated with the Warren County Sheriff’s Department the for past 25 years.

He was a member of the Mississippi Deputy Sheriffs Association and the American Deputy Sheriffs Association. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Mr. Redditt was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Allison Redditt, and a sister, Martha Ann Redditt.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie Grey Redditt of Vicksburg; a daughter, Rachel Redditt of Vicksburg; a son, Brad Redditt of Vicksburg; a stepson, Randy Holder of Texarkana, Ark.; his father, Elbert S. Redditt of Vicksburg; one brother, Elbert S. Redditt Jr. of Vicksburg; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Lick, Lionel Johnson, Mike Traxler, Mike Ouzts, Tony Green, Tommy Parker, Charles Toney and Jack Pace.

Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Pace, Paul Barrett, Tommy Bishop, Greg Peltz, Tim Williams, Sammy Byrd and members and former members of the Warren County Sheriff’s Department.

Ben Yancy Jr.

Ben Yancy Jr. died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at his home. He was 74.

Mr. Yancy was a resident of Vicksburg. He was a member of King David M.B. Church No. 1 and the Cattlemen’s Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Yancy Sr. and Ida Mae Turner Yancy; a sister, Modell Yancy Slaughter; and two brothers, E.T. Burnett and Charles Lee Davis.

Survivors include three daughters, Ida Yancy Johnson of Omaha, Neb., and Brenda Yancy-Nichols and Zelma Wilson, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Hunt of Vicksburg, Lee Ethel Turner of Richmond, Calif., and Margaret Davis Little of Meridian; a stepmother, Lucinda Coleman Young of Utica; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including Willie Mae Long and the Turner, Smith, Robinson, Hunt, Coleman, Wilson, Little, Davis, Burnett, Evans, Butler, Johnson and Neal families, all of Vicksburg.
